The Baltimore Ravens have the profile of recent Super Bowl winners. And they have been very impressive in their play off run.
Joe Flacco, who I have always rated and received lots of abuse on here for it, has really stepped up to the plate and delivered for his team.
One Harbaugh gets lots of credit for bringing in CK for Alex Smith halfway through the season but the other Harbaugh's decision to change offensive coaches towards the end of the regular season could be one of the shrewdest moves yet. And it is already paying dividends with Baltimore being far more dynamic on offense.
As you will all know I'm a huge fan of the Niners D and CK. I've no doubt CK will be a star for years to come.
But what has swayed me in Baltimore's favour is the fact that the Niners D just doesn't seem itself. Recently the Pats, the Seahawks, the Packers and the Falcons have scored at will against them. Since Justin Smith got injured they have just not looked the same unit. The two Smiths, Aldon and Justin, are everything to this D. Are they both 100%? I'm not so sure.
With Torey Smith, Pitta and Bouldin all in great form I expect Baltimore to put up impressive drives and rack up 25-30, at least, points.
Can the Niners out score the Ravens? again I'm not so sure. The Baltimore D is playing great at the mo and were all over the Pats like a rash last week.
Baltimore receiving 3.5pts is a gift. It's a stunning, stunning bet.

I expect the line to go to at least 4.5 by Sunday, certainly 4 so taking 3.5 is not a good bet.
Thers been a lot of hype for the Ravens, many are over reacting. the 49rs are a far more complete team.
If both teams play to their best, the 49rs win comfortable. the Ravens will have to hope for turnovers and fumbles.the 49rs just have to play their game.

nonsense. remember Green Bay scored 31 against the Niners yet defended like a team who have never played defense before. If a completely out of sorts Green Bay can put 31 on the board against the Niners I reckon Baltimore will.
And you are forgetting one very important thing. The score when these sides met last season? They are not entirely different sides from that might

I don't personally think any team is better than the other in this match up, hence why imo at the prices, you have to side with the ravens.

I rate this is a pick em, the ravens have gone on the road and beaten both manning and brady who would be being gushed over and labelled as unbeatable if they were in the superbowl.

Equally the 49ers have beaten a Green Bay team at candlestick and fought back brilliantly on the road against the falcons. I think its unfair on either to say that if they both play at their max they are better than the other. The final two teams left of the NFL season and they deserve to be here.

For me its a horrible game from a punting perspective (but fab from a viewing perspective).   I fancy the ravens +4 and I fancy the 49ers -3.   I think I may just sit this one out, enjoy this and the beyonce miming.   Perhaps a couple of player performance bets for an interest.

Slightly strange as I have always felt I have had strong views (win or lose) from week 12 !

I like the Niners, huge fan of CK. But their D worries me. For a team that prides itself on its D for the past two seasons it has surprised me how much points they are giving away recently.
I guess it started with the Giants tearing them to shreds in Candlestick and then the Pats scoring at will against them, then the Hawks running amok in Seattle and then an out of sorts Packers running up 31 pts against them and then Atlanta moving the chains with ease and scoring easily for two quarters against them.
This Niners D is not as its best. That is the worry. I think Baltimore will take advantage. And I think it's asking too much of CK to constantly dig them out of a hole.
Does anyone have any theories to where it has gone wrong for the Niners D?

' If a completely out of sorts Green Bay can put 31 on the board against the Niners I reckon Baltimore will.'

Clay how are you suggesting that Green Bay were 'out of sorts'? Defensively yes, surely not offensively! I'd certainly be giving the SF D plenty of respect for their second half showing before slating the GB offence.

the Niners D just doesn't seem itself. Recently the Pats, the Seahawks, the Packers and the Falcons have scored at will against them.

points scored/game
Pats ranked 1st avg 34.8 (SF concede 34)
Packers 5th 27.1 (SF concede 31)
Atlanta 7th avg 26.2  (SF concede 24)
Seattle 9th avg 25.8 - off the back of two half century efforts. (SF concede 42)

Four very potent offences on their day, SF's def had game defining periods where they dominated the opposing teams offence (barring the Seahawks game of course).
New England were shutdown, at home, until they scored with six mins left on the clock in the 3rd qtr. Yes, the pats scored 3 TD's in the 4th but surely that was down to seeing prevent coverage for most of the qtr.
Green Bay would have been shut out of the endzone in the 2nd half if it was not for a garbage time score.
Atlanta were shut out in the 2nd half.
The 49ers def know how to turn the screw.

Areyoutalkintome? - There were massive rumours of a sickness bug going around the Green Bay camp in the lead up to the Niners game. Rogers himself just didn't seem to be at his best.
I'm sorry but if u think this Niners D is playing well then you are watching a different one from me.
The Pats scored at will late on in the game at Foxboro. Niners just couldn't stop them.
The Falcons scored at will last week in the first half. And you could argue it was more Ryan's fault than anything the Niners D did.
Also how many sacks in those games?
Report Areyoutalkintome? February 2, 2013 12:27 PM GMT
Pats scored at will because of a prevent defence! They weren't at the game for the first 3 qtrs!
It was the lack of a ground game that cost the Falcons, 49ers stopped the run  and pressured Ryan into moving the chains through the air, he has a history of playoff picks and the 49ers used that to their advantage... game plan. Whilst lacking sacks, they applied pressure to Ryan (he just got the ball away on a couple of occasions) in the second half because there was no threat from the ground.

My point is the 49ers def have pivotal moments where they impact the game... that is good enough for me. The examples that you drew upon have one thing in common, they are all very good offences that have the ability to score at will (as you put it) against any def in the league.... the 49ers found ways to stop them in the end!
Report Areyoutalkintome? February 2, 2013 12:36 PM GMT
I do however take your point concerning the Smiths.

It is also obvious that the Ravens have a more dynamic ground game than the Packers or the Falcons, that is the facet of this game that intrigues me most.

Having fancied the 49ers I have changed my mind since last week and now fancy the Ravens to win this. Since their Defence has got healthy they have been immense of late, I think it will basically come down to Flacco. If he bottles it, they lose, if he doesn't then I think the Defence will ensure they win. I personally think there is very little between these two sides and it will come down to a few moments, I just think Ray Lewis will get his dream ending in the game as well - fate and all that jazz (it's amazing they scored that last min touchdown against the Broncos that type of win instills exceptional belief). I will only be trading what small profit i have leftover for the outright so good luck to everyone with their bets.

Okay Ravens have beaten Pats and Denver but prior to that they havent beaten much.  49ers will find a way to win with their balanced offence but cant be confident over covering the spread.

The Eagles are a big bet here in receipt of 7pts.
