Anybody getting a bit fed up with NFL?

will never get sick of it, all adds to the drama

I hear what youre saying Bob and there are one or two silly rules but if you compare it to football (soccer) for example then miscarriages of justice are extremely rare. i find watching the premiership tiresome as every other game all you hear from managers and players afterwards is bitching about poor refereeing decisions, penalties that werent given, bizaare sendings off, wrongly disallowed goals, etc etc;

the NFL is one of the few sports that has it right in my opinion. the fiasco in seattle basically can be summed up as one team getting credited for a score that they shoudlnt have. i cant remember any similar incident in recent NFL history whereas in football it would barely even make the news.

I also find the whole iceing the kicker ploy a bit ridiculous and the 12 men on the field if theyre walking off but on the whole these are things we can live with in exchange for the netertainment served up.

i can agree that some things in the nfl is pretty retarded, but its better if they are more correct dont want it to turn into soccer, that take away goals and give offside and u cant do anything about it :S

Good post, a point I raised with a friend of mine today when debating last nights calls during the late game. Errors are still made and will continue to impact NFL games, cannot be eradicated, yet they are few and far between and a structure is in place to challenge most calls.
The media over here, milk the negatives of the Premiership especially, it is an entertainment business, what would they write/broadcast if the diving, cheating, ineptness of the officials were to cease? It is encouraged in a clandestine manner.

The icing of the kicker and changeover of players is purely a game management issue, Andy Reid does not have the best record when considering this part of the game. The rules are there and should be applied. Rodgers and other elite QB'S are good at manipulating and dictating the situation, moving up to the line of scrimmage and snapping, trying to catch the opposition out, it's a fast paced game and your play is not over until you hit the sideline! Also gives the advantage to the offence in a no huddle when they enforce that the same defensive unit stays on the field, call it what you will, gamesmanship or tactical application, it is an integral part of the game.

I personally kept my powder relatively dry during the first few weeks, certainly was not going to wager it, knowing these games were in the hands of the replacement refs. Having said that I have been on the receiving end of enough bad calls by the pro's, last night was nearly an addition to that list. I'm not a fan of Winters and his crew... though justice, in my opinion, was served in the end.

maybe its been a bad few weeks, but i get so frustrated with it. i dont get how they can review plays, and still get them wrong. the 3rd down catch for the saints yesterday wasnt even close to being a catch. does anybody actually think it was a catch? how in the name of elvis grbac's nasal hair do you review that, and still not reverse it?

and while were at it, why the hell arent all potential turnovers automatically reviewed. making sure you see who comes up with a fumble before you do the review. so they cant use that as an excuse in the review, ie not seeing who ended up with it.

I understand your frustrations, there will still be an odd flag or two thrown to the advantage of the home side. However, the pro's will have a better interpretation of the rules.   
Automatic reviews, from the booth, are in place within the final two minutes of each half. This means that for the other 56 mins the coaches have to manage two challenge options, if they are successful with both they receive a third. It has to be this way, or else the game slows down and carnage will inevitably ensue with challenges/reviews left right and centre.
I didn't see the incident that you speak of, so I cannot comment. One thing is for sure, if there is any element of doubt regarding the evidence that the referee is reviewing, the lay will not be reversed. They seek definitive proof.

One rule I would do away with is every touchdown being automatically reviewed. I much preferred it when a team had to make a decision on whether to challenge the ruling of a touchdown.

Couldn't agree more, used to enjoy the XP unit hurrying out to the field, in a vain effort to get the snap off before the challenge flag was thrown.

I agree that some of the time outs such as when a field goal is being attempted should not be allowed.

In fact now I think about it why have time outs other than for injury !

Very rare that an NFL team can honestly say 'we woz robbed'. Happens all the time in our football.

when we compare with 'our' football NFL scores far higher

3 simple rules that would sort association football:

1 Coaches get 1 challenge per half/game to go to video ref
2 Goal line technology for goal decisions automatically but coaches could use a challenge on a throw in if they wished
3 Straight red for 'simulation'

I am a diehard association football fan but i prefer NFL these days possibly because the rules are so clear (and all the razzmatazz and hype naturally)

i didnt realise everybody would compare it to soccerball! i very rarely watch the soccerball. its a bit like watching heartbeat on a long coach journey.

All the rules are created for one thing...to create more advertising space...on yes you are right more interruptions.
