I know there are a few NFL pro's on here and with that in mind would be interesting to know what insights people have had so far. Thought about waiting until Green Bay @ Seattle but I am too impatient Grin My thoughts on a few teams were;

Houston Texans - Look a really good balanced team. Able to open up teams with a good running attack which allows them a lot of opportunities for play-action. They have been excellent defensively with JJ Watt a real sack threat. My personal view is that Schaub is a little way below the elite quaterbacks at some of the other teams but they have a significantly better running game than all of these teams (Green Bay, NYG and New England) Houston are in the weakest division by far (I have the other AFC South teams ranked 25th, 28th and 30th respectively). A review of their schedule puts them right in contention for the number 1 spot. I will state at the outset I backed Houston 8/1 E/W 4 places with Magic Sign but haven't seen anything to change my mind.

San Fransisco Giants - After two weeks I had San Fransisco as the top team in the NFL. They completely outplayed Green Bay in their own back yard, giving Rogers no time at all in the pocket, having plenty of sack potential and looking dangerous from both running and passing perspective. I was kicking myself for not backing them. Yesterday's game has completely confused me, Minnesota were awful in week 2 and the offensively ineptitude shown by San Fransisco was a cause for concern. I wonder whether Alex Smith might take a complete backward step at some stage and return to the mediocre level he was a couple of years ago. I think this would place too much pressure on Frank Gore. For the timebeing it's a watching brief as again they have a weak schedule. The fly in the oinment might be the slightly surprising strength of the NFC West (I have this ranked as the 3rd toughest division against a starting rank of 7th) and with Arizona being the most improved team in my ELO rankings they may not secure one of the top two spots like I expected.

Any thoughts on other teams would be most appreciated. I have to confess I haven't watched many highlights of games outside the live games on Sky / Channel 4 / BBC

There isn't too much I disagree with there. I was mightily impressed with the texans last night, great defense and great running game, kind of agree about schaub, although i think they have great complements on offense and they are more than happy with this 'lack of elite qb' tag they have got.
