Lewis is 37, weighs 250lbs and has played 16 years in the NFL; before each game he'll need painkillers and injections in both knees. 16 miles of running every day would finish him off!
Add in 100 miles on the bike and he's doing hours of cardio every day, he doesn't need it. The NFL must have some of the most sophisticated conditioning coaches in sport. Lewis is a legendary trainer in the off-season, but I doubt very much it involves those numbers. |

Hes an absolute monster, and i've seen some of his training videos on youtube, but there is no way he does that!
If he cycles at 30mph(roughly tour de france pace), it means hes cycling for 3 hours a day. If he runs 4 minute miles(roughly marathon world record pace) that's an hour. That's 4 hours a day if you were both a pro runner and cyclist. We can safely assume he isn't doing this pace, which means he is more than likely doing at least 6 hours a day. |

Not a chance he averages 30mph on a bike...even in a group he wont do that..as MR O says he is huge for a racing bike and you cant rack up them speeds on a MTB.

i don't think he will be cycling or running outside
it will all be within a gym 100 miles inside would be no problem for a beast like Ray Lewis. I don't see why it isn't possible? He trains first thing in the gym so he would be running and cycling from about 8-12 (lunch) and then some weights in the afternoon. I would imagine working out 6-7 hours a day is pretty normal for these guys |

excessive endurance sport is counterproductive to someone who wants power, speed, acceleration and muscle mass. in addition a NFL-player needs anaerobic endurance, not aerobic endurance.

^all very true but aerobic endurance will be used in pre season also to build initial stamina levels..then they will work on the more sports specific endurance.

haha what a ludicrous claim!! anyone overtraining that much will be crippled before long. why on earth would you need a=to be a long distance runner to make a great linebacker?? its all about the explosive bursts. unless of course hes claiming to do 16 miles sprint training per day

i would assume he is doing the endurance stuff before the season to build a base as most athletes would do.
i dont think the claim (made by Neil Reynolds) is so ludicrous. The guy is an athlete and eats very clean food. He is only 35/6 |

I took it for granted he was meaning cycling on the spot as opposed to making a journey , also he states those numbers are for his pre-season training so he could easily mean that's over a relatively short period of time.
If that's the case then entirely possible & maybe even probable , can't imagine an 8hr daily stint is uncommon during a reasonably short pre-season period tbh ![]() |
