NEW YORK -- The NBA players rejected the league's latest offer Monday and have begun the process to disband the union.

The decision likely jeopardizes the 2011-12 NBA season, though NBA commissioner David Stern, in an interview on ESPN's "SportsCenter," declined to say the season would be canceled .

"We're prepared to file this antitrust action against the NBA," union executive director Billy Hunter said. "That's the best situation where players can get their due process."

He said players were not prepared to accept Stern's ultimatum, saying they thought it was "extremely unfair."

Stern, appearing on ESPN "SportsCenter," said the offer on the table was no ultimatum, but "a revised proposal which met many of their concerns." He declined to go as far as to say he would cancel the season, but said the union's action put it in jeopardy.

in other words going to court will take at least 2 months even if that is successful players need a month for pre season
whats the point startin a season in march/april. its not looking good for hardcore basketball fans like myself.

Baseball will never be cancelled because thats a middle / upper class family sport ... lets be honest

it will ALWAYS MAKE MONEY its America's past time those rich folks in the suburbs wont allow it to lose money.

basketball is ... lets face it ... a working class sport where the majority players are african american and the rich

white owners dont like seeing them make more money than them. FACT

Baseball did not lose the whole season in 1994, they went on strike in August and lost the rest of the season including all the postseason. They did not return until April 1995, leading to another shortened season.

It was the fourth stoppage in about 20 years.

please expand....

College Basketball will have some of the stars of the future and will have a lot of very good games, while a lot of NBA players are now at Euroleague teams. These 2 leagues still have very good quality for the most part

If you were a "hardcore basketball fan" you wouldn't just be interested in NBA Crazy

ok ill expand ... i never said there was anything wrong with college football or euro league

But as a hardcore fan, i love the defensive aspect of basketball and i just cant watch a game where they are putting up

70+ points in 2 quarters all be it 20 min quarters i just cant watch it even for betting purposes, makes my blood boil the useless defensive plays. so please dont say the words Quality and college basketball in the same sentence unless your talking bout North carolina.

euro league ... ill be honest I've never watched a game nor will i watch a game but that doesn't make me any less of a

hardcore fan.

If your a football fan you tend not to watch lower league football to satisfy your appetite for some quality football

you either watch la liga or premier league and the odd italian . So as a hardcore basketball fan i dont have to

watch college basketball i can still read about it and watch highlights whenever.

okay Silly

still think you're putting down the quality of it more than it is, but never mind.

decent for betting too, not sure how liquidity is on here as I just straight bet rather than trade it, but would probably be some good opportunities laying totals at low odds
