Chargers are a team with so much talent that if they do sneak in they could go anywhere and win.
I agree Chiefs are now massive favs to win the West and Chargers can't get in as a wild card, and as you say the Chiefs remaining opponents won't spread panic for Haley and co, the Raiders are known spoilers and have a clean 5-0 division record, it's only poor performances against the likes of Niners, Cards, Texans and Miami that stopping them from being a play off team themelves. And whilst I agree Tennessee have been poor, they demolished Houston last week and in CJ you have to give them a chance of moving the chains they aren't the worst rush defence and the Chiefs have been getting it done on the ground, so I don't think this Sundays game is a penalty kick. Throw in the regulation upsets that happen every week and I doubt anyone in the Mid West is ordering play off tickets just yet. |

Good shout horsey, SD - good as they are - have left it too late and KC have it wrapped up imho, and at 65's in the superbowl market make excellent value for a good run in the playoffs. Using espn's playoff machine I get Jets @ KC in the wild card games, with the winner going to Pitt.

This is the worst price around at the moment, definately.
16's for a team that in all likelihood wont even make the post season, are you actually joking. 33's is what they should be. |

Agreed, layed em long before I read this. Their coach is a hopeless pile of ........... They aint goin anywhere.

Chargers are very good on offence (2nd overall) and defence (1st overall), it is their special teams who have been letting them down. If they can sort this aspect of their team then they can beat anybody on their day, home or away. 16 is too short though |

4th on O and 3rd on D using DVOA, 32nd on ST though
4th highest DVOA overall (Behind NE, PIT and surprisingly PHI) 16s seems a little short, but nothing crazy. 2.4 to make the playoffs and then 6.7 if they get in doesn't seem particularly ridiculous (Again, probably a little short) |

Obviously having had the p1ss taken out of me for saying I thought the Chiefs could go 11-5 this season, I'm hoping the Chargers don't make it

i've been taking dvoa with a huge pinch of salt this year given the run ranking of ne! isn't the dvoa inventor and compiler a known rabid pats fan?
![]() |

By:
It's certainly not a be all/end all ranking and has a lot of flaws.
I do prefer it to yards though , and by quite a margin. The reason, imo, for the pats high run ranking is that they don't run it very often, so it'll be better when they do. They are 11th on yards/run using normal stats, and Bill being a rather smart cookie probably uses the run more efficiently on 3rd/3 type situations than most (Easier when you have Brady at QB of course). I've found that with DVOA before too, if a team is known to be good at one aspect of the game, the other stuff goes up because of it. A mix of DVOA and traditional stats and the good old "What you seee with your own eyes" is needed. |
|
By:
*Not that they don't run it very often, but that the D has to spend so much in resources watching for the pass.

i've tended to add in my own fiddle factors a lot more this year. downgrading the pats run o for a start! lol the law firm 2nd best in the nfl???

db - I make KC massive favs to take the West, the 8/11 available about them is huge value IMO.
What I was saying was that should the Chargers find a way of sneaking in, they have the talent to go all the way. It's only special teams that have put them in this position, their O and D stats suggest they should be around 12-2 right now and looking forward to a bye week, but ST has cost them this season more so than I've known from any team before. The 16s is no value at all I agree, but I'd be keen to back them at around half that if they win out and KC choke |
|
By:
It's a joke price and a huge lay. Why don't these rabid backers just wait until they make the playoffs, if they do?
|
|
By:
I don't think there's any value in that for them either KR, they'll be sub 7.0 for sure if they get in the playoffs.
The problem most years with the chargers price is in part due to their proximity to Vegas (imo). It might be a lay, but it's not a lay to expect to trade out of. (I realise you won't be trading out, I know you better than that ) |
|
By:
joke of price at moment considering even if they reach playoffs they will have to win
1x WC PO home game vs jets or ravens 2x PO away game then superbowl thats without bringing into the whole will they reach it or not personally i think cheifs will slip up once and down to wether the chargers can win out. but im certainly not touching them until the playoffs and probably wont be in the outrights |
|
By:
Forget about the Chargers. Beating up on teams that are fading or are no good. Caught Kansas in a nice spot a few weeks ago and beat up on a badly coached 49er team last week. Rivers so overrated it makes my bellyache laughing when I see the American Networks Eulogising about him.
They will get their hole opened every time they paly a good team home or away and what is more they know it |
|
By:
The chiefs are just not that good and it wouldnt surprise me to see them slip up...could easily see oakland beating them...LUSTRUM im not sure if you saw the game v the patriots, they killed themselves as they usually do and still had a chance to win, they wont get thrashed by any team when they are firing, looks like they will have a full strength offence to pick from if they make it,you cant stop them scoring when gates and jackson are on the field...dont think rivers is in the elite group but he is still a class act.

Ordanarily I would not have such an opinion but I was in San Diego for the start of the football season and got caught up in the hype with the new running back and all the rest of it. Have followed them closely (over a cliff and getting back only a fraction of my dough in the last few weeks)since, read every article and watched every game.
Take it from me they are no good. Norv Turner is no good. The are the single most overrated team in any code in the USA. Sure they may make the playoffs but I for one will be loading up against them when they meet a team like the steelers or New England. You have been warned |

By:
Losses by both Jets & Jags mean that either Chiefs or Chargers are back in the running for a Wildcard spot
|
|
By:
Jets clinched a playoff berth last week?
|
|
By:
Jets and Ravens/Steelers have clinched the Wild Card spots.
|
|
By:
Really? How come Jets clinched?
Chargers and/or Chiefs can get to 10-6 |
|
By:
NYJ has clinched strength of victory tiebreaker over SD
with Jets loss, Chargers win, win...both teams 10-6 and 8-4 in the Conf, down to strength of victory Kansas would with a loss be 6-6 in AFC... |

looking good
![]() liked how you could lay sd at 75 and 85 for the superbowl and cin at 1.06 on the match odds |

As I used to put at the end of my Maths theorems QED.
What a joke side San Diego are. Was watching some of the game on Redzone and there was one play where McWilliams gave up on a play after his foot was stood on and was intercepted. They are a team of quitters starting with the coach |
|
By:
they were 1.6 14-0 down

San Diego backers seething for umpteenth season. If i see them at less than 16's again next year, i may go postal.

Nick was a bit quiet in the studio tonight, I'm sure he claimed the Chargers were the best team in the NFL 4 or 5 weeks ago.
They are just so beatable, okay when they jump out into a lead but I can't think of any team that would go into a match with San Diego not thinking they don't have a chance. There are too many good teams in the AFC to ever make the Chargers a good bet for the Superbowl at the sort of odds they've been trading at this season. |
