These rankings are from a site that I follow that uses a simple algorithm to determine rankings. Any thoughts?

1 Oklahoma
2 Boise State
3 Louisiana State (LSU)
4 Texas Christian (TCU)
5 Auburn
6 Missouri
7 Michigan State
8 Oregon
9 Nebraska
10 Nevada

Any thoughts?

My first comments would be no Alabama, which is quite surprising, and no Ohio State (although they're not as good as their AP #1 ranking suggests), which is very surprising. I think that the rationale is that Ohio State haven't really beaten anyone of note (given that Miami look to be a bit rubbish this year).

Also a bit surprised that Oregon aren't higher than #8. Missouri and Nevada will surely drop out of the top ten sooner or later. I thoroughly agree with Michigan State being up where they are though. They've looked very good to me.

For the record, the AP rankings are:

1 Ohio State
2 Oregon
3 Boise State
4 Texas Christian (TCU)
5 Nebraska
6 Oklahoma
7 Auburn
8 Alabama
9 Louisiana State (LSU)
10 South Carolina

This week's rankings:

1 Oklahoma              (=)
2 Auburn               (+3)
3 Louisiana State (LSU) (=)
4 Missouri             (+2)
5 Boise State          (-3)
6 Texas Christian (TCU)(-2)
7 Michigan State        (=)
8 Oregon                (=)
9 Oklahoma State       (+4)
10 Utah                 (+9)

Dropped: Nebraska (down 5 to 14th), Nevada (down 9 to 19th)

OK, so that's the 10 unbeaten teams then. Possibly a bit of a cop out. Mizzou are hanging in there and getting it done. Oregon look to the naked eye to be worthy of better than 8th, but they haven't really beaten anyone who's been performing this season.

Boise St are in all sorts of trouble. They could easily win out and not make the title game (again). The rest of their schedule is weak, which could see them slide in the rankings, and Nevada's loss could really hurt them come the end of the season. I can't see them getting picked if there is more than one unbeaten in the Big 12, SEC, Big 10 and Pac 10. That's probably asking a lot. TCU still have Utah to take on. A win there might see them leap over Boise, but both teams could find themselves unbeaten but missing out for the second year in a row. With Boise joining the Mountain West next year, it won't be long before one of the two makes the title game if they can maintain their current form.

Oklahoma have been solid and unflashy, but look a good team throughout. The same cannot be said of Auburn, who are being carried to the top by Cam Newton, who must now be favourite for the Heisman if he stays fit.

Michigan State and Okie State are both playing well, and the latter especially is scoring for fun. Can't see them beating both Texas away and beating Oklahoma in the Bedlam game at home.

At least two unbeaten records will fall this weekend as Oklahoma play at Missouri, and Auburn host LSU (1v4 and 3v2 according to these rankings).

For the record:

BCS Standings   AP Poll

1 Oklahoma     1 Oregon
2 Oregon       2 Boise St
3 Boise St     3 Oklahoma
4 Auburn       4 TCU
5 TCU          5 Auburn
6 LSU          6 LSU
7 Michigan St  7 Alabama
8 Alabama      8 Michigan St
9 Utah         9 Utah
10 Ohio St     10 Wisconsin

I don't know enough about college football to be able to comment, just thought I'd ask if you also look at Sagarin's rankings, you may find those of interest.

Bye sacked their head coach this week after an unacceptable tie with the Buffalo Bills.
