because the Sky account is in the name of another family member. ESPN subscription would have to be paid by them through their bank account (which is a no go) and can`t be paid through mine. Now wait till tou hear this. For me to pay for it through my account, I would have to open a sky account and install a seperate dish and new sky box to view ESPN at a higher subscription. Under no circumstances can I use their dish and sky viewing card to view it. I`ve never heard so much rubbish in all my life. I`ve been on the phone all afternoon arguing with them but it`s like banging ones head of a brick wall. No wonder the country is in an economic slump when big businesses are being run by clowns.
Pause Switch to Standard View I can`t subscribe to ESPN

It's a shame, because it's fantastic for US sports: especially in HD. Can't wait for tonight's game [;)]

That sends alarm bells ringing. Why on earth can't you just give them the money? It smacks of you being dishonest in one way or another.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, and I don't mean to be rude, but that's my first instinct.

Why you'd need to install a separate dish I have no idea though. That doesn't tally with my experience. It's a shame, because as Orioles said it's great - mainly for the college football.

It doesn`t sound a bit harsh historymaker, it is VERY HARSH!!

Completely the opposite mate. It`s a no go because I say so, not them. They want to pay for it, as you suggest, but I refuse point blankly because I know they won`t take the money off me. They already pay £54 a month, which I get the benefit from, and to let them pay the ESPN subscription too, knowing that they won`t take the money off me, would be just taking the p*ss in my honest opinion.

ESPN is awesome.  Their procedure is standard.  Please stop being nasty to people in call centres and slagging off this fine nation and company, and work out how to refund your parent for the extra bits you only want to watch on their SKy system.

Reagan - I don`t doubt the coverage of ESPN for one minute and I`m not being nasty to anyone but merely stating facts. It`s not the call centre staff`s fault but ESPN`s inept policy. And it amazes me how people misinterpret posts and jump to wrong conclusions. Firstly, historymaker tarnishes me as being dishonest or corrupt and you conclude that I stay with my parent (not only wrong but you don`t even credit me with two!). It would drive one to drink!!

Just keep transferring the money to the bill payer's bank account if you care so much about them taking the money.

Fair enough Mac - like I said, it was just my first instinct. I didn't mean to cast any aspersions, I just had my accountant's hat on.

If you want ESPN, I'd suggest letting your folks (assuming it's your folks) pay for it, and offering periodically to pay for it. If they won't take your money, then set the money aside and use it to buy them great birthday and Christmas presents, and really think about what you get them. After all, it's easy to refuse money, it's not so easy to refuse a present. If you want, let them know why you've splashed out a bit.

why don't you set up a standing order into the other persons account for the date that sky take their money, that way they'll not notice the hit in their bank account and you'll be paying for it

No problems historymaker.

I`ve bought a new digi box and viewing card and will subscibe to ESPN through Top Up Tv. Only get ESPN 1 though, but quite happy with that to watch Monday Night Football. Hope the world series is not on ESPN America.
