Hi fellas-I am going to give punting on the NFL a proper go this year. I'm a total dork for it. be v interested to hear your views/bounce some ideas off you. I tend to try and back teams playing away from home when I otherwise think they are much better. You can just about squeak a bit of match odds value that way (I believe).
Also don't really look for "good" teams but rather teams to oppose/neg. last year did very well opposing chicago and i think they could be terrible again this year. Am also going to look to oppose New England when i can...I think they've gone a bit as well. Both of these teams have absolutely terrible secondaries. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
New England Gone is an interesting theory. The pre-season magazine i bought from the US have tipped them to win the whole thing! I'm a little undecided to be honest but I think opposing Tom Brady/Bill Belichick/Randy Moss is not something i'd want to be doing on a regular basis

Heard a few people suggesting NE are yesterdays team, probably are but on their day can beat anyone.
Think the Cards might really drop off a cliff this year.

That that last year NE showed : " What's that's Guy's name ? " You know their QB. ? HAS Lost His NERVE
So unless they REPLACE Him OR He show's a Turn-around, Going against would be My view.

I wouldnt want to oppose new england too much. I read in the F.O almanac that last season Brady faced the toughest schedule of pass defences since they started taking records ! With an easier schedule, Moss in a contract year, Welker, Edelman, these rookie TE's theyve got, i wouldnt worry about their offense too much. Pass rush is a concern, and Boddens injury obv. Ill be looking to oppose them against good passing teams, but would be happy to take them otherwise.
Chicago I cant figure out. Thats a team that could go 4-12 or could make the playoffs. Cutler will get hit a lot under martz, but if they can keep him upright, and if their defence gets back to its usual self, they could be a team to watch.. Tough to figure them out though, and will just sit out their first few games.
Teams ill be looking to oppose:
Jets - That D is not as great as everyone thinks, especially without revis. And I definately dont trust Sanchez yet! Vikes - No rice, so-so recievers after him, banged up favre, aging team. Not for me.

I oppose New England because (i) i don't think they can stop the run even with Vince Wilfork healthy and becasue their secondary looks very vulnerable. When you combine that with the fact they have a limited pass rush you have a very very bad defense full stop. I think they could be poor.
Aces high I too will be opposing the Jets. Purely because I think Mark Sanchez looks horrible. I agree the Vikes are also a neg.
You are right about the bears they could go either way, but know this: whilst Mike Martz is a good offensive mind, and Cutler a really talented QB, no one seems to realise that Cutler's skill set does not marry at all with what Mike Martz tries to do. Cutler is a see it and throw it guy, Martz needs his QB's to throw to a spot... trust me...even though they seem to be getting along fine personally...there is a disater waiting to happen in Chicago. Cutler is not being used correctly, and in any case, that O-Line CANNOT BLOCK.

i don't think you can have pre-conceived ideas about which teams you want to back/oppose for the duration of the season. so much changes week to week, not least the odds/lines. so even if you're right about the teams the oddsmakers will adjust accordingly. try making your own lines before they are posted and compare with the bookies and see who is right more often.if its you, then you have an edge and should back accordingly. also make sure you line shop as half a point here and there can make a big differencejust my 2c worth. good luck for the season.
