Just a quick question guys. Was checking the betfair rules for games that rain shortened and that would become official. The rules state that the "total runs" and "run-line" markets must go 8.5 innings for the bets to be official but it doesn't list how many innings the game must go for the "match odds" market to be official. I am guessing it's 8.5 as well but just checking to make sure because rain shortened games do happen on occassion. Thanks for your help guys

5 innings is a complete game. Assume they would pay out on winner.

Generally it is 5 innings for the ML, or 4.5 if the home team are ahead.

hmm that's what I am not to sure on. I know that most other gambling sites that have live betting make iit so that you have to have 8.5 innings completed or else all in-game bets are void. For those same books if you bet the team to win as a normal straight bet before the game starts and its not an in-game bet, the side is determined after the five innings.
I'm just not really sure why Betfair has a rules section that states that the game has to go 8.5 innings for runline and total bets but doesn't mention anything about the "match odds" bets. |

Because they pay out on any completed game for a match winner (which makes sense) but runline and totals are dependent on the length of the game too much, so they have a special rule that it must run it's originally planned course. This is in line with the industry norm. |

This Yankee game tonight is why I brought this up.
Live betting at almost all of the other books voids the winner of the bet if the bet does not go 8.5 innings. If you bet the bet earlier in the day before the game starts then its just a regular bet and that is graded after 5 innings. So if this game is called due to rain all of the other live betting books will be voiding all bets while Betfair will be grading the match odds market for this game |

Betfair's rules have been much improved.
When MLB changed their policy regarding games rained out mid-inning, you had a Yankees @ Orioles game in 2007 which saw a downpour in the middle of the eighth inning. The inning had seen a lead change, but the game couldn't be completed that day and as it was the last game in a series, it had to be completed about a month later. Betfair's baseball rules stated that bets would be settled provided 5 innings were complete (4.5 if home team ahead), but their general sports rules said all games not completed within 72 hours of the scheduled finish time were void. Betfair decided to keep the market open for a month and settled it as a Yankees win when they closed out the game the next month. Any serious bookmaker offering baseball betting would've settled it on the last completed inning on the day (ie Orioles win). Several months later after much delaying on their part they refunded my loss on the market. I bet they didn't do that with everyone though. As a result, the baseball rules now contain the phrase: If an MLB match starts but is later abandoned or postponed and an official result is not declared within three days of the scheduled start date, all bets will be void, except for those on markets which have been unconditionally determined. That's a much fairer way of doing it. |

By the way Stacocakes, if you've taken a totals bet and it's already over the stated total, Betfair will settle that bet as it has been unconditionally determined. A lot of other betting companies would void.
