Hoping with the upcoming Jan 4th battle wrestling might be in for an exciting time
TNA Impact have announced - a women's title bout, and the debut of Hogan. Though likely a return for Sting; Flair if they can get him to agree a deal and probably a few surprises.
RAW have loaded up, with the main draw being Bret's return to WWE proper after 12 years (can't believe it's been that long!)
I hope it's an interesting time, and that TNA at least prosper for a while. The big mistake Carter's making is not focusing on becoming an alternative product for me. WWE-lite just isn't going to work - they need to offer a different product, and in Joe/AJ/X-Division they have the ability to do so.
Apparantly Russo/Bischoff/Hogan have already started the swerves - claiming Russo hasn't spoken to anyone, yet they've been having meeting for over a month. Outside a minority of fans, who the feck's that gonna draw?
I don't think Morrison needs a turn yet myself, but you never know.
Orton's a bit of an issue, he's getting the biggest pop in the room wherever he goes and heel is almost unsustainable.

Personally would prefer him to stay heel, i just dont think it's possible. Also think that now that the marine2 is out of the way, there's no real reason for Ted to turn face.

You didn't hear the things Orton said about HHHs family. You'd have wanted to fight him too.
It's obviously sometimes a bit rigged, but quite clearly when someone kisses your wife in full view of the world, you're going to want to hurt him.

Kind of agree with Lori. Everyone knows there are bits that are scripted. But there are so many moments that are real that it doesnt matter. I can't quite believe that Shawn Michaels' career is now over. He gave so much to the sport and noone can say that the ending to this year's Wrestlemania was anything other than true and emotional. As much as any other sporting event this year at least. I really feel for him.

Other than those emotional moments, there are also moments of true sporting heroism, as in any other sport. When HHH blew out his knee at the end of the DX vs Orton/Edge storyline and continued for, what, 10? 15? minutes just to get the job done. That was something that anyone who saw it just won't forget - and in a true sporting grit sense.

He makes a fair point though. Shouldn't this thread be in "Specials" along with other reality TV/soap opera threads? It's demeaning to the decent North American sports fans imo

- For a few reasons, I think this is the worst Wrestlemania in recent years. The card had one of the best build-ups in modern years, but just failed to deliver on all levels. The only excellent match on the card was Michaels/Taker, and the result of that match was that arguably the best worker WWE has, Shawn Michaels, is retiring. Unlike Flair's retirement, Michaels doesn't need wrestling. He had four years out and was basically coerced into returning by Hunter. He doesn't long for the spotlight in the same way Flair does. You can tell that Flair lives and loves wrestling, and without it he is nothing. He probably falls apart out of the spotlight, because he is the Nature Boy. Michaels hasn't been aversed to taking months off at a time, and only came back in 2009 because Hunter wanted to reform DX. Michaels, nowadays, is more bothered about his kids and God.
- Cena/Batista. Two over wrestlers, but not two good wrestlers. If this was the next step down in the main event for WWE, I fear for the state of the business. It was aright, but this is Mania FFS.
- HHH/Sheamus. I feel a little sorry for HHH, who can now only have great matches with great opponents. He cannot carry an opponent like Michaels can, meaning a Mania-worthy main event is now a thing of the past for Hunter, unless he faces Edge.
- Edge/Jericho was good.
- MITB was a cluster**, and suffered because the eventual winner (Swagger) did the least barring Kane.**was amazing here, and like Shelton Benjamin, won't be used for another six months on the back of it.**should have been out on RAW, getting a push on the back of this.
-Hart/McMahon was just weird.
Next year will be pivotal. What big draws do WWE have in terms of a match? HHH/Cena has been done, and will be average at best. Undertaker has now beaten all of the top guys in this pointless ego-fulfilling streak, and now has ran out of opponents. When Orton was on fire during the Legend Killer gimmick, he really should have beaten Taker. Mysterio, Edge & Jericho are great wrestlers but not big draws. So basically, they will have to rely on the Wrestlemania name to draw a million buys.
In a few years, that will wear off. They will inevitably go crawling back to Michaels.
Next year's Wrestlemania will be a non-event, unless they book Austin/Cena. The only other outside option is The Rock vs Cena, though I'm not sure he'd return. With Foley seemingly done with TNA for a while, I would have
Austin/Rock vs Cena Undertaker vs Mankind in Hell in a Cell Part Two
The Undertaker is now nailed on to win every Mania match he has, so you have to draw the crowd with something else. That would.

WWE has been on the slide for a while now - I have been an avid wrestling fan for about 20 years now and at the mo there just doesn't seem to be anything new. I like Orton and his style but WWE just seems to be going through the motions. It needs to find some real storylines and some charismatic wrestlers.
Agree with earlier post and I was disappointed with Wrestlemania.
I prefer watching TNA at the moment.

The first time I watched was on world of sport in circa 84-85. The first time I took notice was on holiday in America 87 and a match was on the telly. this guy took his spurs off his cowboy boots and cut the other wrestler's head wide open. i will never forget that day. Then Sky took over in England and I was hooked. The days of Jake the Snake / Rick Rude / Earthquake to name a few are a million miles away. WWE don't appear to do Vendettas or promos anymore. The promos were all part of the show. WWE rest in peace (for now)

I'm hoping this whole dumb PG rated thing is a giant masterplan to have another attitude era which will shock us all and we'll love it.
I suspect however, it's just dumb.

The best promo in recent times was Cena/Edge about a year ago before their LMS match. The fact I can remember a single promo is an indicator of how things have gone downhill.

Took my son for his 8th birthday to the O2 to watch it last night. I never expected to enjoy it,we had ringside seats that were great and the whole night was real fun. Ive never seen my son so excited and he absolutely loved it. Ive got to say they put on a great show,it was pure entertainment even for a 40 year old ! To top the evening off CM Punk gave my boy his shirt as he got in the ring although he wasnt that impressed beacause he hates him cos hes a baddie and he wanted Ray Mysterios shirt instead lol.

Good RAW tonight because they've had to ad-lib everything (almost the whole roster stuck in europe due to volcano). Great special host (see pepsuber advert from 2009 bowl link below) and good old school promos almost unrehearsed

I have to say, I think TNA is far superior to WWE at the moment. Matt Morgan is entertaining for the first time in months, RVD is the champion, even Styles has grown pretty well into the Little Naitch role. Even The Beautiful People are annoying me less.
But the last PPV, Lockdown, was the perfect example. It was really, really good. Some dodgy booking aside, the actual in-ring action was really entertaining. I'm sick of watching WWE PPV's where I fast-forward the Sky+ through half of the matches to the ones I want to see. I'm not bothered if TNA can make a genuine wrestling war. I just hope that they can gain enough viewers to keep the current regime in place, so I have some decent wrestling to watch of a Saturday night.

Totally agree Miami - TNA is starting to take off, They have decent wrestlers in all divisions (tag, womens, lightweight etc) - WWE is off the boil imo - I just don't get it at the moment. Love RVD - got loads of wrestling videos from RVD's early days at Wrestlepalooza from ECW
