I love my baseball, I love betting, and I make consistent money betting on cricket.
I know that I don't know enough about baseball to make money - I've never bet on it up to now exceptenners for interest, but undoubtedly some of you guys will. Would anyone care to give me a few pointers ?
I'm quite prepared to put the legwork in to develop a ratings system, even if it takes a few months to get it to even thinking about anything other than paper trading.
for a sense of how to analyse the game and then it's a question of getting to know baseball to get a feel for gambling on it. Game favourites are typically short on value and can be the route to the poor house. Try starting with betting totals and again, if in doubt, take on the herd.
Good luck.
Few sports are statistically dissected more minutely than baseball. You can try this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baseball-Hacks-Joseph-Adler/dp/0596009429/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=IIBTTG0AMANWZ&colid=161YT7A0ISK8R for a sense of how to analyse the ga
Just by the by, I'm seeing the Las Vegas 51's (Toronto's AAA side) in a couple of weeks, and I'm interviewing one of their players (as yet undecided which) for a magzine article.
I'm currently trying to get their PR guy to let me take an hour's practise with them for the article, which would be a laugh too.

yep all on the pitcher, so funny when think back to early days playing on it, would watch the angels destory, say the A'S, then the next night i'd back them against the A's again and they'd get hammered and wonder what the hell was going on lol

Cheers Umbo, although the first criterion is going to be someone who's articulate and hopefully funny. After that, ideally someone who's had experience of the major leagues or is likely to this year would be key. The angle of the story will be what it's like to live in Vegas, since it's for a magazine called Gambling.

baseball is not a sport to venture into imo if you want to play inrunning unsocial hours, massive time disadvantage, poor liquidity etc
unless you're from canada of course, then a 5 year old could turn a profit

How poor is the liquidity in running ? And is there nothing at all on non-TV games ?
it's pretty bad, there's generally money about, but rarely at a sensible price, spreads of 1.6-1.7 are fairly common the non tv games can be better than the tv games, depends who's on mlbtv is a must

Most of the non-televised games, particularly the late west coast games have zero liquidity most of the way through, until people want to back/lay 1.01 late in the game. If you're wanting to bet £5 a time you could probably get sensible prices, but anything more and you'll struggle, unless Betfair recruit a lot of in-play baseball punters from somewhere.

yeah, sorry misunderstood, that's right, mlbtv is as fast if not faster than espn, so it's invaluable. don't know why i'm trying to put you off, the more the merrier, there's still money to be made, but it wont be easy though.

If i get myself organised properly, I think setup and paper trading for a couple of months - assuming it takes a month or two before that to get enough data logged for the new season.
Pinn*cle available too for good overrounds.

Just for info for anyone who's interested, I ended up interviewing Kyle Phillips, Catcher and Infielder.
He played a few games for Toronto last year - got his first hit off Verlander - but is mostly famous this year for, in a spring training game this year, throwing the ball back to the pitcher and accidentally wanging it striaght into the ear of the batter. ESPN picke dit up and showed the world, how embarrassing ...

Shame you couldn't get one of the prospects to talk to you. As a Jays fan I would've been very interested to read about Wallace or JP Arencibia. Still, a good day out none the less.
