New Orleans Saints flag to be flown by Indiana governor....., :) By Robert Travis Scott, The Times-Picayune February 10, 2010, 5:04PM File photoThe Saints flag being sent to Indiana As if losing the big game wasn't tough enough, Indianapolis Colts fans soon will have to endure the embarrassment of a black and gold New Orleans Saints flag flying in their state capital.
Gov. Bobby Jindal bet Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels that the Saints would win Sunday's Super Bowl contest, which they did 31-17. It was a straight up wager, with no point spread. Now it's pay-up time.
Daniels is supposed to fly a Saints flag "around the Indiana State Capitol" to honor the wager, Jindal said in a letter to his counterpart in the Hoosier State. Jindal on Wednesday sent Daniels a flag bearing the image of a Saints helmet, which should be large enough to be seen blocks away.
The exact time and place of its likely short-term display in Indianapolis has not been publicized.
"I couldn't be more proud that the entire world had an opportunity to witness the excellent sportsmanship that both teams displayed," Jindal said in his letter. "We look forward to seeing a photo of where you decide to fly it so we can share it with the Who Dat Nation back here in Louisiana."
Jindal wished him luck and added "Geaux Saints" as a post-script. No partisan political points were scored in the deal: both governors are Republican.
