Salary cap mate
Report maleuk01. February 7, 2010 11:34 PM GMT
tai what does cap value mean?
Report maleuk01. February 7, 2010 11:37 PM GMT
most players are under $1m per year and a lot under $500k per year then. But no one under $300k per year.
Report tai671 February 7, 2010 11:38 PM GMT
Each team has to keep under the salary cap, so players can have a different value to their actual salary because of bonuses and how their contract is weighted. You just need to add the bonus plus base salary to see what they're actually being paid this year. In American sports you can have front or back loaded contracts though to bear that in mind.

What's the point of a salary cap if you can give bonuses any way you like?

BEST PAID IS JOHN TERRY
Report tai671 February 7, 2010 11:41 PM GMT
You can't just pay unlimited bonuses, or else there'd be no point in the cap.
Report maleuk01. February 7, 2010 11:44 PM GMT
think the premiership should follow suit.

Show all players wages inc bonuses and have a salary cap.
Report Hayden February 7, 2010 11:45 PM GMT
similar thing in the nhl , salary cap is $11.6 million a season per player but the minimum is $500k , Crosby and Ovechkin are both on $9 million basic this season but there are a few above that , Crosby's endorsements are massive though on top of his basic.

I agree, it would make for interesting reading if Premiership salaries were made public but it's a totally different mindset in American sports. Players openly hawk themselves around to the highest bidder when out of contract, while clubs trade players at the blink of an eye. Players are talked of as "pieces" at times and are seen more as commodities to be bought and sold to the highest bidder.
