Pretty sure there is less glory hunting because the sports are so cyclical and success gets spread around more. Also the teams seem to be much more community oriented compared to PL teams.

I think its more or less local teams, but teams like dallas seem to get widespread support

In my limited experience of traveling America, I never met an American who said they supported a team that wasn't at least vaguely local.

worth mentioning that quite a lot of fans support a college team first.
