In his own view, Charles Woodson put together his best pro season in 2009. How appropriate, then, that he is The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
The versatile Woodson tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, and was a key to the Packers turnaround on defense. His role in Green Bays ranking second in overall defense, first in interceptions (30), takeaways (40) and turnover margin (plus-24) earned Woodson 28 votes Tuesday from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL.

Rightly so.

Hard luck on Sunday, slipped / got pushed to the ground (should have been off pass interference) of LF's 2 notable plays

If he had any self respect, he would refuse to accept it. Got beat down good and proper when it mattered.

The award is what it is..........Defensive player of the year.

Just as well you don't judge a player on one game isn't it otherwise tom brady would find himself traded

says at the top mate,50 sports writers polled for their votes but i will say this i think woodson has got it for his all round ability to cover lots of positions,of o were voting i'd have given the nod to revis because he's a shutdown machine and causes passing attackcs all kinds of problems.
Rivers will see it first hand at the weekend.

Unlike the Bengals, San Diego have more than one recieving threat. Unless he discovers schwarzenegger style cloning technology, Rivers wont have to worry.

Rivers will still have a field day as he has a number of 8ft odd receivers to throw 2 lol

dont think the chargers have anybody to run all over the jets tho do they which will force rivers to throw it more, its just my pocket talking but i do actually fancy the jets chances of causing an upset.

he has a whole host of players to throw too...chargers will have a field day imo...they have for most of the season...on a great run and it will continue imo

Well deserved. Over the season, not one game. GB's trio of Woodson, Collins and Harris (when he was fit) are a match for any WRs.

you have them 3 as the best in the league as a trio? packers fan by any chance?

When: 13 Jan 10 15:01
No of course not, did i say they are the best 3? They operate as a unit. Woodson's award but the GB secondary are very good and i see it as more of a joint award.

If it were solo awards then Nnamdi Asomugha would always be mentioned, unfortunately his teammates are shocking so gets overlooked.

Al Harris is overrated in my opinion.....talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk, put a top reciever on him and he gets shown up.

I disagree, the Jets are not sucessful because they have 1 shutdown corner, they are sucessful because all of the secondary is good, it may be easier to throw on the other side, but it isnt no easy target
