latest goss has the bluejays wanting to dump the contracts of rios or wells with the halladay deal meaning they'll likely get 1 premium prospect at best..

ideal trading partner for Halladay would be rangers, red sox brewers in that order..

have to disagree Reg.. Bottom line, can you really see yerselves competing against the Rays Bosox Yanks with your current payroll? It's likely to shrink due to recession.. The canadian dollar is very weak at the moment.. might as well get some top prospects for him.. You wouldn't say no if the Rangers offered Max Ramirez, Netfali Feliz and Justin Smoak???? Of course they wouldn't offer that much but theoretically would you reject that kind of offer????

It would be very stupid to start trading Roy Halladay since he is the heart of the team. The team has to be rebuild aroound him. Get rid of Rios and Wells and look for more productivity in the clutch. The team ERA against the red Sox over the past weekend was 2.00 (6 runs in 27 innings) and against the Yankees at NY 2 weeks ago it was 2.40, yet the Blue Jays only won 3 from 7 against both contenders. I still think they are a lively contender with 69 games left and plenty of talent in the bullpen. So why trade your ace if you are not out of it???

Get rid of Rios and Wells

Best of luck with that project. Wells' contract in particular is horrendous:

2010: $12.5 million + $8.5 million share of signing bonus
2011: $23 million
2012: $21 million
2013: $21 million
2014: $21 million

Ugh.

In fact, trading Wells (as a salary dump) packaged with Halladay is probably the only cost-efficient way they can get rid of him.

send him to the brewers. toronto apparently looking for a shortstop so straight up for ex-ss bill sounds good to me.

seriously, although i'm not in favour of giving up the farm, the move for felipe lopez actually gives the brewers a little more leverage and i'm hopeful that something can be done, although i doubt we have any pitchers the jays would be interested in (parra maybe but brewers unlikely to be in favour of that) and that seems to be an essential ingredient. however, the brewers made the move for sabathia last year and obviously there is not the same issue with free-agency concerning halladay. doc is seemingly happy enough playing for 'smaller' teams so milwaukee might be a nice fit. here's hoping anyway.

Problem is they're rightly looking at the similar package the Braves and the Mariners gave up to acquire Teixeira and Bedard. For me, only the Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants and Rangers have a farm system deep enough to satisfy the Jays. Bill Hall ain't gonna cut it!!

Brewers would have to give up Gamel and Escobar and the pair of em still wouldn't be enough!

i was joking about bill hall - no way would anyone pick up his salary anyway. the brewers front office seem determined to hang on to escobar and it looks like jj hardy would be on his way first but can't see the jays going for that. gamel is a possibility with the emergence of casey mcgehee but neither are any good at 3rd base! and as i said earlier the brewers have nothing in the way of arms to offer toronto. i'm still hopeful tho as without better starting pitching i fear we may be done for the season.

reading on brewers website that parra could possibly be part of any trade so if the brewers are prepared to deal him this might be a goer yet.

Me too, but Boston and Toronto to make the playoffs this year is about 1,000-1.
