Excuse my ignorance but thanksgiving for what? I wiki'd it but felt it was a lame enough explaination, or is it?

Thanksgiving is great, it's like Christmas but without the tacky gift-giving obsession. And instead of being based on some 2000-year-old religious myth, it's simply a time to give thanks for what you have...food, family etc. And stuff your face & watch live sports of course!

Turkey here ... my family think I'm completely**ers, but I insist on a Thanksgiving dinner and it's eaten in front of the football.
