A bookies' benefit at Quail Hollow last week as 500/1 rookie Derek Ernst took the Wells Fargo Championship on the back of a run of uninspiring performances which had not hinted at what was to come on a tough course.

Not much we could do about that but add him to the notebook for future reference, accept the financial loss and head on to Florida for what is always a highlight of the golfing year, The Players' Championship at Sawgrass.

Drama and and an exciting atmosphere always await at this stadium course with it's famous island green on the Par 3 17th hole.

The consistent Billy Horschel recorded his overdue maiden PGA Tour victory last week in New Orleans but at a price of only 34 on Betfair prior to the tournament, he was never really a backable price as far as I am concerned so given the prices we are generally backing at, it was just a case of accepting a losing week and moving on to North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship.

This week's event at Quail Hollow, still in its infancy but developing a fine reputation, always provides great viewing and invariably throws up a classy winner.

I'm focusing on class, event form and long, solid driving in my quest to find the best value bets for this week. Good luck all

Top-class multiple winner on tour who triumphed here in 2009. Mainly out of form this year but some signs of a revival last week and showed when winning the RBC Canadian Open in 2011 that he is another who can win out of nowhere after a horrible run of form

A welcome winner in South Carolina last week as my headline pick Graeme McDowell obliged at a price of 48 on Betfair after prevailing in a play-off with Webb Simpson in the RBC Heritage.

It's New Orleans this week for the Zurich Classic, a test of accuracy and course management but also plenty of birdies to be garnered with four Par 5s on the Par 72 TPC Louisiana track.
