The view of Gerry Anderson the new BBC1 Technical expert ex Jordan GP is that if you compare the fastest times in testing so far at 2 venues and then compare fasted times over race length runs that the Red Bull is approx 3/4 of a second faster than the Ferrari and a second faster than the McLaren.
On far less data in the 2012 the Mercedes is closer to the Red Bull and the Force India,Renault and Williams are quicker than last year comparable to the front runners albeit on low fuel and short timed distances...
The logic is therefore that qualifying could be tighter than last year but over full tank race distance the RB has the edge from Mercedes and then Ferrari and McLaren....
IT is very early days though!

Can't see Redbull getting a march on their rivals like last year. That diffuser gave them a big advantage in terms of grip which isn't there now? McLaren the pick so far for me.
