I saw the following on the BDP forum, which hints strongly that Betfair are working on a JSON version of the API

>> Unfortunately, it is impossible to please everyone all of the time! Only a suggestion, but would it be more efficient to move the whole platform (i.e. the web AND the API) onto JSON formatted data? That way, betfair would not have to maintain different servers for each platform. This would also make load balancing easier to control and web scraping would not have ANY advantages over the API because both methods would return exactly the same data. The obvious disadvantage is that betfair would no longer be able to charge a subscription fee for the API. This would only bring them inline with the other betting exchanges anyway, and could quite easily increase betfair's income via data/transaction charges and increased liquidity.

>> What you're describing is an excellent idea. Wouldn't it be great if that's the kind of thing we've been working on. In fact, that might explain why there haven't been very many updates to the API recently. Hmmmmmm.

If this is true, can you give us any status updates ? I don't want to be investing in the (dreadful) SOAP API if a new JSON release is right round the corner.

Thanks.
