One of my favourite meetings of the year, generally good quality horses on show, great betting races and usally an informative bumper too .Think Mr Martin will win it but with which one!! Quite like Golden Spear if it`s allowed to take it`s chance.GL.

Stop talkin ****. There is only one winner if he is right. Heartbreak City jumped like a Cat in Galway. Couldn't believe the price. It was a gift from God.

Heartbreak City would have to be rated in the region of 115 on the flat now and if you add approx 40 to get his hurdles rating he certainly has plenty in hand.
By:
You may be right but he will be very short in what is still a huge competitive field. Trainer's Quick Jack went off 7/4 for this and could only manage 3rd. With Heartbreak City being so short there is plenty of good prices floating about.

certainty me hole!!! a hold up horse on that tight leopards town track in a race where there's always trouble and hard luck stories.

Yeah because we all know flat form is always carried oner to hurdles

You can say that again!

Desoto County not declared. Easy way to lose £200 that.

As far as I know Heartbreak City is being asked to do something that no horse has ever done before-run in Australia after a busy European campaign and under 3 months later run in a competetive handicap hurdle.Personally I think travelling to Australia really takes it out of horses and I can't see him being at his best tomorrow.Tony Martin is the shrewdest trainer in the game in my opinion but I think tomorrow is all about trying to get him ready for Cheltenham and getting his handicap mark high enough to guarantee a run.
Are the owners being naive or greedy running him -maybe.Is this a modern day Dawn Run running in the French Champion Hurdle-hope not. I might look like the village idiot tomorrow night but I think he is a maximum place lay at odds on.The 9/4 is ridiculous and I wouldn't be surprised to see that price double. |
By:
Should be 6/4 in my opinion. AS stated above his hurdles rating is not far off his Flat rating and he's already shown at Galway he can win a competitive hurdle pretty cosily. Only 7 higher. Plus it's a 100k race today so why wouldn't he be ready? A big field seems to be the layers biggest negative but i personally wouldnt lay 3.3 on the hope of bad luck in running.

Getting beat nearly 200 lengths in his first 4 hurdles for Martin is some effort,,,
By:
Fav could win this easily but no value in his price. His stablemate,Golden Spear, is worth a look. Came out the Ascot fog last time staying on well when the leaders had the race sewn up. The fog was probably a benefit that day for connections. Again, 8/1 isn't the greatest value I've ever seen but better than a poke in the eye.

I'd be very underwelmed by its jumps form alone The Fear, beating St Stephens Green and Mai Fitz Jack narrowly on the face of it wouldn't be good enough, flat form is a different story and also he looks like needing a penalty for Cheltenham wouldnt want me taking him on either.
Not gone on any of Mullins in it,even in the w/o market i'm struggling and a race i,m leaving alone, gun to head though That's A Wrap got a clear run last time it was likeable,Elliott's Veinard could plug on into a place, must watch race all the same. |

Keep it simple lads pile it on the fav, he is a cert

well done those who doubted the favorite

I'd say Phil SMith will sort that no problem ![]() |

Thought jolly would have been a good thing today but alas wasnt to be. More annoyed with Davys ride on Mydor in the race after tbh. Had him EW but thought left the race behind him. Anything else impress or disappoint anyone today?
By:
Toe the Line was fairly impressive today, Kiely put it down to better ground after a very lacklustre run last time.
Bakmaj looks tiny but seems to have a fair engine. Was on Mydor myself wasn't a great ride but unlucky Oscar Sam stayed on very well also. Veinard was easily travelling best before the last, good handicap in him though seems to need a fast pace as looks unable to quicken to any degree late on. Enjoyed the days racing. |
By:
Backed Toe the line @ 5.7 on here and 9/2 at the track, she was 2/1 w/o fav and as they approached the last, I was thinking to myself why didn't you back her w/o fav .luckily for me she showed a nice turn of foot to take it up and win going away.I also backed Roly Baby w/o 3 @ 9/2 so a good day was had.Small enough crowd there today.
By:
Nice work WR. Dont know what Mr Kiely has planned for her but would be interesting in a decent handicap. Shame about the crowd. Look forward to a full house in Gowran this Thursday for the Theyestes. One of my favourite days racing in the year
By:
I hate Theyestes day Monarch ever since they kept us in the car park for 2 hours a few years ago. I have not gone back on that day since.
By:
Didnt know anything about that WR. Suppose the fact its my local track increases the enjoyment. Could go their for a flat card on a Summers evening and would be empty so always nice to see a good crowd go racing locally at some stage of the year

Lovely meeting, I've never been. Could you nearly say its the last big midweek winter Irish meeting that is well-attended by the public?
Race days like it are what gives Irish Racing its character. |
By:
Was there myself. Woeful crowd compared to last day of xmas when was only day I made it there. I guess Irish people hate handicaps.
Toe The Line surely runs in the 2m2f handicap on Irish gold cup day. Political Theatre looks good ground dependent but is very nice horse. Bakmaj has massive engine but connections will ruin him. |
By:
Great post by Eddie Batt, well reasoned piece well written,I hope you got plenty.
Saw Heartbreak City was trading at 1.59 in the place market at one stage. CheltenhamRoar ( again ) Agadolphin and Jackdaws also made great contributions. I actually think he wants further. |
By:
Odd race as they went none of expected frantic pace and plenty in a heap in behind.I ended up doing Golden Spear and though beat just over a length-and no stage was he ever in with a shout of winning.
Well done the place layers of the fav. Great shout. Racing never as simple as ratings on one code to the other. I layed the fav small but should have had more conviction and go for the place lay. Tony Martin has 3 horse there that will be well backed wherever they go next. Cheltenham County Hurdle an obvious place but no doubt I will be chasing my Desoto County money there! |
