Taking a fair walk (wafer thin liquidity) for the Christmas hurdle at Kempton ?

The standard of top class hurdlers in the UK is horrendous this year, chi'tbello winning the grade 2 at Haydock (first prize -62k), the new one winning the international (72k winner) and Irving winning the fighting fifth (67k for first).

The standard of the UK hurdlers has been poor for years but this year it's just shocking.

With Nicholas canyon winning the morgianna by a dozen lengths and apple's jade winning the hatton's grace, it's hardly a vintage year here either so far.

Meanwhile Nicky H has picked up 30k only in 2 novice chases so far with Altior, I would have have had Altior favourite to win any of the 3 previously mentioned UK races.

I'd be tearing my hair out if I owned Altior, serious horse who should be hurdling when the top flight has never been weaker.

Himself and Nicholls are afraid of Willie Mullins, they've taken such a pasting from him in the last 2 seasons, probably a belief issue. In years gone by, that would've definitely been a Champion Hurdle Horse.

Trying to figure why the English Hurdlers are so bad in recent seasons, I wonder is it in part because no of the decent middle distance flat horses go hurdling any more; with the lure of Dubai and the australians buying them up as potential Cup horses down there.

Worrying it is so quiet on Faugheen, could it be telling yorkhill hasn't reappeared yet if there is something wrong. Yorkhill going down the Champion Hurdle route would be likely if Faugheen is seriously wrong; especially given Annie's frailties.

a slow-motion finish between Nicholls Canyon and The New One in the Champion hurdle sounds edifying alright!

another little bit on Altior, this again shows how Henderson is suffering for not having Geraghty as his stable jockey any more, it must be a fair bet that geraghty would've made it crystal clear that Altior is a Champion Hurdle horse having won the race twice in recent seasons.

DeBoinville may have thought it, but wouldn't have the standing Geraghty would have to say it categorically.

I well remember Keen Leader putting up Faugheen as one to watch even before he had a race under Rules, It would be a shame if we didn.t see Faugheen at his best again.

Nicky would want to get a grip of himself and stop balling on the TV, it seems other issues are finally taking their toll.

It's grossly unprofessional to be consistently putting up Tinkler. David Bass isn't even in the second tier. De Boinville maybe a gold cup winner but plenty to learn and hasn't earned a seat at the top table.

I am waiting on Cue Card for a serious wedge, I'll put the mockers on myself but think he's virtually gone by. This year's renewal isn't a patch on last years

Kempton will suit home more than Haydock in comparison to Coneygree. Thistlecrack will sill probably run in the Feltham and has yet to "race" over fences even if he does.

Not a bad supreme that one al ferof, spirit son, Sprinters Sacre and Cue Card. Spirit son only raced once after that when obliterating Cue Card at Aintree,

Davy had a nice winner today at his owner's track today. Won virtually on the bridle but on a horse that doesn't find a lot of it.

I managed to see only the race on Jameson and although he didn't win I thought he delivered the horse at the right moment. That place is a real quagmire and his nous is probably a great advantage there.

That is shaping up seriously well for Cue Card alright, it is too big of a step for Thistlecrack to make in one go and while Coneygree has won there, I wouldn't think it would be his track, either. the biggest danger I could see probably goes to Leopardstown and still needs to improve a fair bit anyway to hang with Cue Card, that's Valseur Lido. Can see myself having a bet on him in the Lexus.

Toying with the idea of giving Saphir Du Rheu one more chance if he runs on Saturday, less competitive than the Hennessey and the way he should travel through it will hopefully put him there at the end.

I wonder is it worth an interest in Yanworth for the Christmas Hurdle as there must be a chance Mullins won't run anything if Faugheen doesn't go (Vroum Vroum Mag might have her sights lowered and that level of form is questionable now anyway). The New One possibly didn't beat anything on Saturday and you've got to think they'll have Yanworth hard fit to find out where they stand with him.

I don't think the Tent runs again until the Betfair and if he was in it, it'd be to try and coinvince the handicapper to relinquish further I'd have thought.

I don't know what to make of Yanworth yet Neil,a literal reading of his seasonal debut with lil rockerfella has left me undecided/wary, all be it this is a different type of test and will improve a lot from his seasonal debut. Would they be running here only for uknowwhatimeanharry? I'll sit on the fence on that one but could well be a very weak line up. It looked like they were aiming at world hurdle previously.

I don't care what anyone says Willie made a balls of Yorkhill at the end of last year (ie running at Punchestown). I said it on here before Punchestown that he looked like he had enough for the season at Aintree, a most bizarre race where raw ability (only) got him home.

It'll be interesting to see how Bags Groove runs tomorrow at Newbury, 5/6 and should take the world of beating with his last run suggesting the step up in trip should suit. Disappointing if he can't beat these in receipt of 7lbs from 2 of the main market protagonists.

That Newbury novice hurdle is working out really well, Jenkins was extremely poor in the jumping department but has a fair engine. The fourth Pingshou beaten 8 lengths won a decent novice hurdle at Cheltenham for Tizzard subsequently. The 5th Hidden cargo (beaten around 16 lengths) again ran very respectably today.
The third horse in that Newbury race- Captain Forez for Hales/Skeleton traveled like one with ability also, one of the stronger novice hurdles this year.

Dj, not trying to blow smoke up your rear but you make some very interesting points.
On Yanworth, I had a few bob on him 10 days ago for the champion when it emerged he was being campaigned at 2m. I'm not saying he will win, but it looks a particularly weak division, and there is niggling rumours about both Faugheen and Annie Power. Either way there's a marvellous chance that he won't have to beat both in this years champion, as it's unlikely both will run , even if both were fit and healthy.
There is every chance Yanworth will have a solo in kempton and contract markedly as a result. For the life of me I cannot see anything lurking that you'd be remotely worried about .
The emergence of Unowhatimeanharry as a World Hurdle contender has in all likelihood forced connections down the 2m route, and with a scarcity of realistic possible winners, then it's hard to blame them.
On Jenkins, he's most certainly a very smart horse, and to me at the moment remains the most likely winner of the supreme novices . Bar maybe Mullins, I'd be surprised if anyone else will have anything better.
I thought bags groove was disappointing in Newbury as he was beat turning in , and even when Jenkins wasn't comfortable at a stage, neither was Frys horse. Even though he finished second , I'd be surprised if he turned out to be anything special. Tomorrow though is a good opportunity as the extra trip is a help and the fact he has no penalty is obviously a benefit. Realistically he should be winning this and is bound to be popular , particularly the way his form is stacking up.
A horse i like for the future is geraghtys  winner today movewiththetimes, I'd say the tote gold trophy is well within his compass . I definitely think he is a very very smart horse, a grade 1 horse even.

As I am sure you're aware Mincer11 the horse that finished second to movewiththetimes today was the previously mentioned hidden cargo. The better ground at Newbury might not be ideal tomorrow as was outpaced but that is mitigated to an extent with increased trip, weight concession (from 2) and probably weaker opposition. He was 7/4 with 365 for 10 minutes at 16.00

Do you mind me asking what's your view on the King George and how do you think Altior would have fared over hurdles this year in the UK so far.

It was far from a vintage supreme with the likes of Charbel and Mister Miyagi in the top half dozen but for me the winner had 10lbs in hand and has a very likeable manner who really puts it in.

I'd have to fancy cue card in kempton to be honest, and as for altior , if I think Yanworth has a chance in this years champion then as you can appreciate I'd be all over altior should he have remained over hurdles . He'd be clear favourite if he was hurdling and I'd imagine Yanworth would be going 3 miles too.

Ruby has controlled the last 2 Champion Hurdles from the front with Annie and Faugheen, they were much the best horses anyway but I seem to remember more ordinary fields without a stand-out going seriously quick leading the likes of Punjabi to win, Celestial Halo to go close and Binocular to look a million dollars at times coming off that kind of pace.

Could see Yanworth thriving if that was the dynamic.

Neill  Annie Powers time in winning was nearly 6secs faster then Faugheen , as far as i know Annies time is the fastest for many years, the only horse to get close was to get close to A.P. time was Jetski in 2014, Punjabi time was 15secs slower then A.P. As we know ground can make a big difference. The times can be check out on Wiki.

Get what you're saying Frank but in mitigation,

Fast pace can lead to a pace collapse in the latter part of races as horses have used their energy sub-optimally, Punjabi also probably just wasn't very good!

Ruby completely took the piss out of the rest of them from the front in Faugheen's Champion Hurdle, he was on the fastest horse and was happy enough he'd do them for toe placed as he was, it was really clever, Faugheen had an easy race.

I think they were worried about Annie being done for toe back at 2 miles having gone so well in a stayers, they knew she would get every yard so they made it a real test, but Ruby being ruby, he didn't go too quick and the time was still fast.

with what TellTheKing has said above, it could all be academic as if Faugheen is half right he will win and Ruby will divert Annie to the mares.

Neill Vroom Vroom Mag will run in the Mares if faugheen and Annie are right. Annie will run in the World hurdle, a long time to go before March so we might have a better idea by the new year .
