On the subject of all stars back in the last decade a certain hurler from Waterford was nominated, prior to the awards player was tipped off by a friendly journalist that he was getting an award and sent a cousin of mine to put on a few quid with a bookmaker who was betting on it.

Just looked at the All Star selections .  While you cant argue with most of them , overall they are not an inspiring lot . How Dean Rock gets an All Star is beyond me , if I was a county defender I would love to mark him in any match .

Don't think I saw Peter Harte in a no 10 shirt any time this year , normally operating around mid field / half back . Best Tyrone player though this year .

Mind you I never had much faith in the way All Stars were awarded . The last time my county had a substantial number of All Stars the best back on the team was not even nominated among the 45 , despite obliterating every forward who faced him in the championship , including the final where his direct opponent for 70 minutes hardly got a kick at the ball and yet won an All Star .

In that same final the player who got man of the match ( and a 10 rating out of 10 from one of the Dublin newspapers ) said to me minutes after the game ( before they even got to the changing rooms ) " player X gave me everything ( which was true) " .  Player X was rated 6 out of 10 by that same paper despite playing extremely well and "accounting " for the 2 opposition "strong men" .

Annoying thing is some of these journalists get paid big money for putting up crap . And they also get to pick All Stars I suspect .

Man Of The match , player of the year , lm very weary of betting on these sort of markets in any sport from now on ,, not saying there was any wrong doing in this market but if anybody who influenced the result wanted to make a few quid it would of been very easy .

Keegan is the most influential big game player in Gaelic Football, now, but Fenton had the more even and overall better year.

Callanan was robbed and may never win one now having been nominated for the last 3 years. I think Bubbles will win it next year.

Gleeson is the most talented & eye-catching player in hurling right now, but Callanan has been immense for 3 years & is an all-time great. Having seen his girlfriend in the paper, I don't feel too sorry for him, though.
