In fairness to her she's not only helping herself she's looking after the brother.
He's the proud owner of a derelict house in Ballina but they have managed to get a whopping price for it by getting Mayo County Council to buy it. |

Thank you for showcasing another soft target Wildman; no doubt your vitriol on this lady was evident from her days as the forerunner to Ivana Bacik.
Is your hatred just confined to those with an opinion or does it extend to every scrounger taking a pension from the state in excess of one hundred grand? they must be thousands of these Lottery winners at this stage? |

The sale price is well and truly rumbled now, nice to see RTE highlight something before a transaction takes place, for a change.

Well, for once, Borneo might have a valid point here. Feels very wrong on a number of levels.
Though, naturally his begrudgery kicks in when it comes to pension payments. Jealousy is the tribute mediocrity pays to genius. |

Mary Robinson a soft target,hardly.
I object to huge pensions on the basis that when you are old you don't need as much money. The time a man needs money is when he is rearing his children,so its generally his thirties. The tragedy of the last few decades has been the transfer of wealth from the young to the old. |

No place for integrity in Irish society unfortunately. Every single political debate is ultimately fraudulent.
The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office. Dwight D. Eisenhower |

Simple question. Whats wrong with sticking these papers in the national archives? Was of the opinion thats their purpose.

I know where I'd tell Noddy to stick those papers Monarch and it wouldn't cost the state a penny. I've been following this story in the Sunday Times for the last few weeks and it is an absolute disgrace. When Noddy's husband and brother pitched this idea to Mayo County Council, it should have set alarm bells ringing. The fact that the Dept of Arts decided to pump money into this Robinson family slush fund is scandelous. What I learned for the first time last night and was absolutely shocking is that Mayo County Council have agreed to cover all unforeseen costs resulting from the construction of the museum. Given that the building is old and derelict, that bill could amount to millions upon millions.
Enda Kenny has a lot to answer for, no way this would be given the go ahead if it wasn't in the heart of his constituency. People go on about the cute hoorism of Fianna Fail but I think this Fine Gael government has been the most deceitful and manipulative in the history of the free state. |

The Primetime section on this last night was superb.
Shes your atypical Trinity type......loves moralizing and lecturing from the pulpit and made quite a living from the Human rights/charity industry. As mentioned above a parasite of the worst kind. |

Didnt realize it was on PT last night. Would have had a look otherwise. Might check it up on rte player. Seemed scandalous enough from the few articles id read in the sunday papers but if this bit about Mayo CC covering additional costs is true the whole thing is even more rotten than i thought. Anyways whats she actually "gifting" us. Probably a few poxy pictures of her shaking Kofi Annans hand or some other bs

She was way before her time in some ways.
She had a visceral hatred for religion in the seventies but with the inexplicable soft spot for the religion of peace. This has now become the norm among the compassionate. |

The Sunday Times has stated yesterday that Revenue have done an independent valuation of Robinson's archives and that their valuation is significantly lower than the one which Robinson's so called charitable foundation has carried out. Revenue seem to be the only government department that know their arse from their elbow, hopefully they will have the good sense to ensure the state isn't taken for a ride. There is so much dishonesty coming from the Robinson side that it must call into question the viability of the project. It would be great for a town like Ballina and the West of Ireland to go ahead with a project like this but it can't be done for the sole reason of financially benefiting Robinson and her family at the expense of the state.

Number of points well made here lads.
Does anyone else think they might be overestimating the drawing power of the papers? I can't shake the feeling that Ballina could be left tethered to a handsome visitor centre with huge running costs that won't be able to sustain itself. I'd have a lot of respect for Robinson & what she has achieved, but would find many of her strongest supporters rather over-zealous in the sense that they feel she can do no wrong. I felt most of this could be explained away until I heard the valuation of the Brother's house at 650k. It lost my goodwill at that point. |

Don't ever criticise her in front of a female Humanities student, Rocket; they'll burn the ****g ear off you!

The tax breaks and the valuation of the property are scandalous, her pensions are irrelevant to the topic.
How can she claim to be gifting gifting the papers if she is receiving a 2 million tax break for doing so. The conflict of interest between the members of her charitable trust also serving as council members is astonishing. Hard to see it covering its running costs let along being able to service a substantial loan. |
