This saintly woman is concerned about unaccompanied minors, you know the ones generally lying males of fighting age.
Her concern for children is a relatively new phenomenon.
She wasn't too concerned about the unfortunate children in Kilkenny when she was part of a huge cover up.

Dan , i see your neighbour Darren Gleeson has kept the tradition going down there.
Do the kids in the schools get a half day when he arrives?
He had some big shoes to fill but he has done ye proud.

I don't know what tradition you are referring to ?

Its a sad case alright but its still at the trial stage.

They must have him nailed to the floor, Wildman I'd say. Bringing that was probably the last thing anybody wanted to do.

Surprised because he was very patient in his sporting career showing great character. Guessing it is gambling related as it seems out of context with everything else we know about his life. Does he get a custodial sentence is the question.

In Mincers world the gambling angle would get him off.
On the Gorey Post Office thread he was explaining you sit wasn't the mans fault at all it was Paddy Powers.

Its interesting to to observe that the lady who failed to look after genuine Irish minors in the seventies now thinks she will be able to look after fraudulent ones from a barbaric religion.

Just on Sister Stan, I'm not anti-church by any means. People take a pop at them a lot now just for cheap political capital.

But it does annoy me a bit that they are all over the 'popular' topics like homelessness but are then completely ambivalent about Capitalism.

I'd like to know what their stance is on the water protest people, for instance.

The tradition Dan is as you are well aware , one of unrivalled untrustworthiness of some of the gambling fraternity in the North Tipp area.
In years gone by as any bookie would be able to tell ya, if you extended credit to an inhabitant of that area, then you could simply draw a line through the debt.
A world famous area for that kind of thing, they had forged cheques , stolen drafts, you name it they had it.

Why would they extend credit to these people so.

I'm years going racing, raced with many a fellow Countyman we never knocked anyone.
There was a regular racegoer from the area that did some damage,he couldn't bake enough bread to keep those bookies going.

Some members of the bookmaking fraternity were guilty of sharp practice and some knocked but I suppose the rules don't apply to them.

I'm in no way suggesting that your good self was ever contaminated with this selective amnesia that was rampant in your area at the time
To suggest that this baker gentleman was singlehandedly flying the flag is more than fancfiful. North Tipp was synonymous with skullduggery in the 70's and right through to the new millennium.
As for those bookies you refer to, at that time , some of the ones who came from inside the pale were of very dubious character, the bulk of the rest would have been extremely honourable. That time you could count on one hand the amount of bad eggs who made a book at the races, nowadays it's the opposite at some meetings, there are some real low types , although there is one in particular who brings shame to the bookmaking industry, every time he drives his unroadworthy car through the gate
