Sprake became known during his career as a goalkeeper who was brilliant, but occasionally prone to appalling mistakes. He spent more than a decade as the number 1 keeper at Leeds during a period when they were a dominant side in the English domestic game.

He was a much better keeper than he was given credit for,was infamous for his mistakes.
Probably a bit churlish to bring this up but he managed to score in Anfield by throwing the ball into his own net. Des OConnor had a hit at the time called Careless Hands which the Kop sang for the duration of the game. |
