Looking forward to one of the  the special days  in Irish sport .  That it is City vs Country adds a bit to the occasion , Mayo fans will probably be outnumbered big time .

Cant see Mayo holding the Dubs , given recent form .  Picked up a coupon today offering Dubs at evens minus 3 points , but it was "out of date" , actually 10/11 .  I think the margin may be at least 5 points or more , but hope it is tighter for the sake of the sport .

Also looking forward to the minor game , Kerry have looked a bit special from the little I have seen of the minor fare to date   , but they play a good brand of football and should reward early attendees .

Hope the weather does not play ducks and drakes , today was spectacular here , lets hope for a dry sod and a dry ball .

Dublin need to take Dean Rock off the frees, he's kicking them like a weak little girl.

Can't believe people laud this Dublin team as 'greats'.

Conditions were poor granted, but what a sh!t final in terms of quality.
Report pa lapsy September 18, 2016 5:06 PM BST
Poor fare alright, still Man U with 100's of millions and "special ones" were a brutal watch earlier.

Hope Mayo get something from this, weren't great either but the two ogs were cruel.

Mayo fully deserved the replay in all fairness.

Dublin players are some shower of scum and knackers.

Dublin next week with a dryer ball and McCarthy back will batter them.

Would be great if we can get a bit of 4/9, 1/2.

Why Connolly shot there in the end I will never know.

Also, what photos of the manager has dean Rock got. Those handy frees he missed were critical. He was the worst player on the pitch.

Dean Rock and Ciaran Kilkenny are not good enough at the top level.
Report neill d September 18, 2016 5:44 PM BST
Kilkenny is a fine player, not a great kicker and was poor today but very safe, big engine, reliable hand passer most of the time. Rock has no redeeming features as a footballer!
Report newapproach September 18, 2016 6:04 PM BST
To be fair to Dean Rock, he played very well in the semi final and was one of the Dublin's best players on the day. None of Dublin's players played well today, big chance missed by Mayo. Funnily enough, Dublin played terrible in last year's final also but still managed to win that one. They were lucky to get a draw today.
Report Racingqueen September 18, 2016 6:29 PM BST
Whatever about the Dub players, Seamie O'Shea was diabolical today. By a mile the worst player on the pitch. Single handedly cost Mayo imho
Report neill d September 18, 2016 6:29 PM BST
I thought Dublin tossed it to be honest. Couldn't believe Connolly took on that shot from the line at that time. Mayo made a raft of bad decisions toward the end of a tight game, but that is what they always do so can't really see how they threw it away. Hoofing in high hopeful balls under pressure in the closing quarter of tight games is intrinsic to the way they play.

The one thing I see in their favour is that Aidan O'Shea and to a lesser extent his brother surely can't be as bad again.

Still don't think it will be anywhere enough.

Rock kicked a nice point alright, but his free-taking off the deck was woeful, don't know why they dispensed with Cluxton taking em', know he missed a few in 14' but he's still a better option off the deck than Rock. Rock is okay out of hand in fairness.

I thought Brogan showed okay for the ball in rotten weather before he came out. Would love to see andrews or the kid who got the last goal in the semi in for Rock with Bernard and Cluxton splitting the frees. The frees would bring Bernard into it evn though his legs are going a bit.

Mcmenniman, Connolly, Kilkenny have huge scope for better on dryer ground. Nobody really talking about what a loss McCarthy was either. They'll hose up next day really, I just really feel it.
Report neill d September 18, 2016 6:31 PM BST
Rules are an absolute joke in this sport as well, that is before we even get to the diabolical application of them.

Also the conduct of the players is ugly. If soccer players behaved like Connolly and Keegan..........
Report pa lapsy September 18, 2016 6:47 PM BST
I couldn't agree more Neill d, i know it is only "handbags" most of the time but every game seems to have nearly a half dozen free for alls ,no need and a poor image, kinda enough coloured cards at this stage and maybe a cage or enclosure or suchlike to put them into for a few minutes to calm dowm or something(or continue), it is bordering on out of control.
Report neill d September 18, 2016 6:55 PM BST
Bang on Pa, the ref had to bottle further black cards because the crowd would've rioted.
Report tobywong. September 18, 2016 7:03 PM BST
retrospective disciplinary action for connolly keegan perhaps , if they have the balls , connolly should definitely be done for striking but reckon 1.00001 nought will be done.
Report GANT007 September 18, 2016 7:47 PM BST
Neilld.....I agree with you but imagine getting soccer players to play with that passion, you would have some team on your hands.
Report neill d September 18, 2016 9:10 PM BST
Would never question any of their commitment GANT. Connolly as well, for all people say about him, is a joy to watch playing football. Would've been one hell of a soccer player as well I'd say.
Report The Gotchee September 18, 2016 9:21 PM BST
Connolly, I heard is a better hurler. I think his father is from Kilkenny.
In defence of Connolly, he has been targeted in every match.
The most skilful player in the country.
Report neill d September 18, 2016 9:33 PM BST
Had heard he is a tremendous hurler as well, was kind of making the point that he would be excellent whatever sport he turned his attention to, especially soccer, which would've been pretty lucrative.
Report Bigwillystyle September 18, 2016 10:30 PM BST
As predicted Mayo are more than a match for Dublin. Rock not worth a sausage under pressure. Brogan and Flynn past it. Dubs have nothing on the bench bar Andrews and Mannion.
If the replay was this Sat u would say Dublin with their access to recovery rather than 3/4 hours on buses etc but the fact it's two weeks time gives Mayo a great chance.
If I hear one more clown tell me Dublin are one of the greatest sides ever!! They are a very good side in a period of poor sides.
Report Senyatta September 19, 2016 2:54 AM BST
lot of people look foolish now. don;t think i saw anyone give mayo a chance. what is that now 6 matches 2 wins each and 2 draws. yet one team was 7/2 in some places. dubs should win the replay but they scored 9 pts today 3 less than last year's final. not sure why they didn't just run the clock down at the end they had the game won
Report kavvie September 19, 2016 8:29 AM BST
dubs are good but not in the "best ever" category yet as i said here a few times...mayo were in desperate hard luck yesterday with the 2 ogs and the needless giving the ball away and were ultimately lucky to get a draw after connollys bid for glory with that sideline.ud imagine dublin will win the replay but if mayo regroup and draw confidence from yesterdays result you would never know.i was there yesterday and one thing struck me as regards touts etc.i  heard not one offering a ticket for sale...
Report Kelly September 19, 2016 11:02 AM BST
did not see a tout there yesterday , kavvie . dubs were under cooked or something yesterday , in racing terms they barely lifted a leg .  mayo defence were very good , aside from kicking the ball into their own net twice , never saw that before at any top level.

found the match slightly weird from the start , draw ultimately a fair result , glad i was not betting in running , dubs must have gone pretty short at some time during the 78 minutes .

best atmosphere i ever experienced before an alli ireland final..dubs fans supremely confident of only one outcome.mayo fans quietly hoping for a miracle of sorts..hard call the replay.are dublin likely to play as bad again?will the osheas and the oconnors come up a level?  i see dublin are 1/2 to win the next day  thats about right i think.mayo have a 33% chance of winning..

As a Dub it pains me to admit that the present Dublin side are not a patch on the great Kerry side off the 70s,having said that they will beat Mayo in the replay because they are not going to play as badly as they did yesterday, the first 12 mins of the 2nd half they were shocking,i feel Mayo missed there chance yesterday.
Report kavvie September 19, 2016 3:50 PM BST
popular opinion and the media would suggest that dublin will win the replay.im not so sure..mayo will gain confidence when they realise they still "have it" after a series of average performances..it will be very intresting to see..lets hope the replay is as exciting as the drawn game.  im sure tickets will be equally hard to get.  did a team ever get beaten by that years all ireland champions after a replay 3 years in a row?..will dublin be the first team in 26 years to go back to back?..
Report Bigwillystyle September 19, 2016 3:52 PM BST
I cant see where people were coming from saying Dublin would win easily.  Mayo had prepared all year for 1 game.  They took a chance on getting to the final and they have.  There has been nothing between these team over the past 10 years and there will be very little in the replay.  I myself think the Dubs are rated far better than they are and agree with Frank.  They beat a rubbish Kerry side who wouldnt be a patch on Mayo.

The notion that Dublin wont play 'as bad' again is insulting to Mayo.  They were not allowed to play.  Dublin have persisted with Brogan, Flynn and McAuley when all three should be nowhere near the side.  McMemmein also not good enough to start.  They have Andrews and Mannion on the bench and very little else.  Hopefully Gavin persists with them and if he does i cant see anything but a Mayo win.
Report Senyatta September 19, 2016 5:29 PM BST
watched the game at home today. it's always worth watching it after seeing it live. no way dubs can be as poor the next day. just look at the wides they kicked when they had easy chances. seamie o shea can't pass the ball he gave it away so much it was crazy. moran 2nd half and o connor saved mayo - obviously they defended well but the dubs still kicked some howlers. if mayo play like that again the next day they won't win imo. need to cut out the ridiculous errors and need a big game from aidan o shea he was woeful yesterday.

worrying thing for mayo is when they get back level they never push on. same thing in the 2 finals they lost. they only seem to play when they are 4 or 5 pts down. at least they played well for large parts of the game and their fitness won them the second half. despite all that dubs should have still won credit to mayo for that last play - one mistake and they'd lost another AI.
Report Senyatta September 19, 2016 5:32 PM BST
12,000 tickets more this time as there is no minor game so much easier to get a ticket(non season ticket holders).
Report Bigwillystyle September 19, 2016 5:37 PM BST
If i was from Mayo i wouldnt be worried at all.  Hit with two sucker punches, it takes so much energy to get back into a game from the position they were in. They never had a chance to push on.  It was Dublin who ultimately crumbled under pressure.
Mayo can improve big time.  Young players like Durcan and Harrison getting better every game.
Report kavvie September 19, 2016 5:45 PM BST
yea bws but they are still mayo.and sadly they have always found a way to lose..lets hope they find a way to win sat week..

Very poor standard not helped by the weather but exciting end to it which masked that fact that neither side can kick a ball to save their lives when you compare them to Dundalk FC.I thought Mayo deserved it and was delighted they got a replay, i'd fancy them the next day it must be said at the prices although you have to be realistic and think the Dubs will never play as poorly again. No issues getting a ticket the next day. so no crying on here girls. Just a final note if i may, lets hope for a much improved game the next day with a bit of skills added to the bluster.

mayo have never had the forwards to win the big one. feel sorry for their defence who were excellent. not many teams could go with dublin for nearly 240 minutes and come a point short with all their mistakes own goals etc. decision to swap all star favorite clarke with hennelly who has had howlers before - including the loss to galway this year - was baffling. can't blame the player he tries his best but time and time again he's exposed as unreliable. did the same last year against the dubs this year was bonkers  - gets keegan the blackcard and can't catch a simple ball then compunds the error by pulling down the dub after the dub player spills the ball! not sure exactly what rochford was thinking....maybe it is the o sheas who are calling the shots?

in any event it is no surprise mayo keep finishing short in these finals or semi finals - they simply haven't the quality in the forwards to put the ball over the bar. that's two years in a row they should have put that dublin team to bed instead the same old crap about the curse of 51 etc. so many games left behind by not converting. feel sorry for the defence they were so disciplined. shame about the other half of the pitch. credit to the dubs they know how to get it done. they are winners.
