Just when you thought the Bourne trilogy would never be matched ( latest offering not great by all accounts ) up pops a rival , in a fairly modest card at Roscommon .  Not the first time in my memory that Roscommon has seen some great strokes  , but surely this sets the "standard" .  Guess the Stewards were kept busy looking through the form book , and hindsight might occasionally be relevant , but ....

Cant say I am over worried by the SP price control bookies bleatings , but I suspect there will be some draconian measures put in place to limit similar potential "winnings" . Ordinary punter will probably be unaffected , interesting to see reaction though.

Some way to get their Galway money back, himself and AJM make any race with a horse of theirs in it a no bet race unless you're in the know.

I reached that stage many moons ago regarding another Irishman known for strokes , punchestown . Did not affect me a lot betting wise though as I avoid handicaps generally , and when the "system" allows you to handicap your own horse there has always been a lot of room for exploitation.

CHARLES BYRNES and Davy Russell were the toast of Roscommon on Tuesday evening after landing a "well orchestrated gamble" courtesy of three runners who were available at double-figure prices in the morning.

War Anthem was the first of the three to take his chance in the maiden hurdle at 6.40 and despite finishing down the field in his two most recent starts, scored stylishly under Davy Russell at 6-1, having been 16-1 in the morning and as short as 4-1 at one stage.

RE    RACING POST

Next up was Mr Smith, a formerly John Gosden-trained gelded son of Galileo, who lined up in the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 7.10. Soundly beaten in a handicap hurdle last month, Mr Smith returned the 7-4 favourite, having been as big as 12-1 earlier in the day.

All eyes were then on Top Of The Town in the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 8.10. It had been more than a year since the gelding got his head in front but he did his job just as readily as his stablemates to land the gamble, returning the 5-4 favourite.

'We needed it after Galway'

After landing the coup, Byrnes said the audacious bid had not been a long time in the planning but was a welcome boost after a tough week at Galway.

"After Galway we needed it," he said. "I did my brains with Sea Light twice and Crystal Pearl getting brought down.

"It's just the way it turned out. I won't say that I planned this. I just had a bunch of six or seven horses that hit form and I thought, to hell with it, I may as well throw three or four of them in together and we only put it together in the last couple of weeks.

Report insideinfo August 4, 2016 11:01 AM BST
you can get a decent bet on a 365 new account no problem, especially where multiples are concerned.
Report kavvie August 4, 2016 12:34 PM BST

Report frank60 August 4, 2016 1:24 PM BST
I rang my son who had a a/c with 365 [they limited him to small bets only] and he told me they assess your a/c every year or so,i might have spoke to soon.

I am restricted on the whole year firm , but they are not the worst , and occasionally they let down the drawbridge .  They also are fairly civil on the phone , unlike some others .

frank i dont think you telling tales about the sportsbook is telling anyone something they dont know already ..its amazing how bad it is and why they set it up in the first place if they wont lay bets over a fiver?
Report cloone river August 4, 2016 11:30 PM BST
Some one should ask Barry how does the sportsbook work.
Report pa lapsy August 4, 2016 11:43 PM BST
That sportsbook is a long time with the "baby steps",twould want a good phunt up the hole at this stage now.
Report pa lapsy August 5, 2016 11:35 AM BST
Just on my "moderated" post at around 23.38.
It wasn't meant as anything personal, in a nutshell trying to plug a bookmaker that wouldn't take a bet other than literally pence, well that is up to yourself and not your fault, but that is the reality of it.
Report joevalue147 August 5, 2016 2:26 PM BST
Barry Bore thinks the sportsbook is competitive. Laugh
Report pa lapsy August 6, 2016 11:20 AM BST
Mr Smith out again tomorrow and CB has a few over the weekend with chances, surely the beady eye will be on him.On second thoughts scrub that maybe not.
Report insideinfo August 6, 2016 6:05 PM BST
