After watching last weeks RTE coverage from the Curragh and again this evenings meeting from Galway, Ted was asked who did he think would win the Galway plate, this evening as well as last weekend and on both occasions he was very strong in his opinion that Road to Riches would bolt up...
Having watched racing for a long time i know better than to be listening to Ted! If he told me it was raining outside i would still want to go out and check.
I mentioned Ted's "tip" to my Dad who is definitely not a fan and his Theory is....
He will never ever tip a horse that Ruby is on in a big race AND if Ruby is on something with a decent chance Ted will actively champion a different horse in that race..
Therefore I am taking on Road to Riches in the plate..going to back what ever Ruby is on!
I am open to AND expect ridicule from my forum peers around 5.40 Wednesday if Road to Riches bolts up!
I haven't seen RTE which isn't a bad thing as the gligeen Gleeson brings the worst out in me anyway.
Kinda with Ted on this one PE,he is obviuosly far and away the best horse, but saying that he likes to lead and i think it is very likely he is going to get hassled for that here, that is the big question mark to me. I'm inclined to think Ted is straight up on this occasion.
Ruby might possibly be on Alechi Inois and that would have a chance alright,a lot seemed to have been put away and this is their target which makes it a hard race on current form.
Regarding tv pundits,i think Kieran O' Sullivan(ATR) is the best one around currently with Irish racing, like his manner.

The rain is against Road to Riches PE,so Ted may be unlucky that materialised,it takes a bit away from his chance. If Spruce Meadows turns out again tomorrow looks an ew bet at current 6/1,won with a bit in hand i thought.

Park Express-my brother has said for years that Ruby will always talk up the opposition and play down his own chances of winning. Is Ted in on the act -probably.He said at the Curragh on Guineas day that whenever anyone asked him for a tip over the winter he gave them Air Force Blue for the English 2000.

Ted is just bluntly giving his opinion. Pressure isn't riding a 12/1 shot in a competitive summer handicap, pressure is correlated with expectation, ie riding Douvan,Faugheen and Annie Power etc on the opening day of a Cheltenham festival or Kauto Star in a King George or Gold Cup.
His opinion on the plate certainly wouldn't be given with the hope of deflecting pressure from Ruby riding a 12/1 shot (regardless of result)
Ted is in the same mould as Dunphy, Hook, Brolly etc. he's made a decent living out of being outspoken and controversial. He should have been put out to grass a long time ago as he can barely conceal his contempt for punters, his bitterness was exacerbated by the Cinderella incident. However we're stuck with the Walsh family on Rte as Robert Hall co owns the production rights.

Road to Riches is clearly the best horse in the race on the form book; my Dad and I have spent hours discussing our Ted Walsh conspiracy theories over cold pints of Guinness; I think it finally reached a tipping point last night, I climbed out of bed at 1.35 AM to have a Ted Walsh rant on our Forum
In fairness to Ted, on this really sad day, he gave a really classy interview about JT and his passing.
Have to agree Pa; Kieran O' Sullivan is very good IMO.
DJ - agree 100%. Dunphy, Hook et al know how to make that TV licence payers money
Pa - hope Galway is going well for you; I had a horrific first couple of days (bar Aido McG horse this evening).
Cheers for the replies lads;Road to Riches is clearly the best horse in the race on the form book; my Dad and I have spent hours discussing our Ted Walsh conspiracy theories over cold pints of Guinness; I think it finally reached a tipping point last
What would Leap Frog have been rated. What would Ansar have been rated.
I think its the ground rather than the rating that's the worry for Road To Riches.

"The favourite was Tullow Lass, ridden by Mr R O'Neill and she looked to be obliging, as she had a clear lead coming to the fifth lass (sic) where she fell. Undecided was not in touch with the leaders at that stage, so it must have been a surprise to her when she was brought down by the favourite. Ted Walsh was the rider of Undecided for his father Ruby and this is his version of what happened next:
She fell at the hurdle past the stands and crashed through the running rail on the inside. When she got to her feet she proceeded to follow the horses that had gone on quite a bit in front of her. When they turned at the bottom bend, she also turned to take a short cut. I ran after her to see if I could catch her, as she ran towards the pond, which was covered with a green coat of slime and grass. As she was running downhill towards it, she jumped the water at the edge. I am presuming she thought the green coat was solid and she landed about 15 feet into the middle of the pond. As I got to her, all I could see was her rear end sticking up and her hind legs kicking. She appeared to suffocate quickly. I remember when we pulled her out with a tractor and rope tied to her tail, the suction was so great it pulled the bridle off her head."

Thanks Kinscem, i was wondering how it could ever happen, a sad way to go for Undecided.
Road to Riches didn't jump, hope you did Ruby Ew in the end PE.
Overall you would have to leave Ted off this time.
