Brute of a track is correct, rough is savage also and bombers will have bit of an advantage imo, bubba price @ 55-60 is attractive though clearly he hasn't been in good form this season but course may keep him motivated,Koepka is another im keeping faith with at similar price 50-55
Adam scott hasnt played much golf lately but could get involved also Imo. Then the big three day, spieth and rory cant be ignored but price very skinny on this kind of test. The last time this course hosted us open +5 won (cabrera) so patience and calm head needed.should be interesting. |

Incredible exhibition of driving from DJ. Didn't hole anything last night though.
Would be nice to see Garcia/Westwood/DJ get the monkey off their back. Nice round from Charl yesterday after a sloppy Rd1. Course will only get tougher from here on out. Revised winning score +2 |

How is Matsuyama doing? Will he be around for the weekend?

I think Shane Lowry is some bet at 3/1 for the US Open.
He leads by two from a player playing his first major ranked in the six hundreds. The known players immediately behind him are suspect. Dustin Johnson is an infamous choker Sergio Garcia for all his talents can't win a major,he will start missing putts. Throughout Lowrys career he has shown guts. His win as an amateur in the Irish Open, done from the front the hard way. His win in Akron was done in style. This man won't lack in the bottle department, someone has to go mad from well behind and I just can't see it. Have faith in the faithful man. |
By:
Rooting for him Wildman,lovely fellah.
By:
If Shane can stick to par for the last 19 holes he will win . Hope he plays for the middle of the greens and 2 putts per hole . Course will be tough though , particularly for those out last as greens get firmer . Go Shane !
By:
exactly. Par should be good enough unless someone shoots the lights out. this is a different level but hopefully his experience of winning last year at the Bridgestone stands to him.
By:
Shane Lowry tee time 8.30pm.
Hope he does it. If he can drive the ball like he did in that 3rd he will be hard to stop. |
By:
Par is a great score on this course, i believe he told his Father yesterday that the course suited his game , what a nice Fathers day it would be if Shane won, it make up for yesterday .
By:
Evens is still a cracking bet, tempted to go in again.
Kilbeggan the place to be tomorrow night, the Faithful will be out in their thousands, even Kavvie might make it. One thing is certain a lot of pints of the black stuff will be despatched. Our man is a champion in that department as well. |
By:
I see he called a a penalty shot on himself on the 16th ., a good sportman is Shane.
. |
By:
The choke has begun. The footballers, the rugger buggers now Lowry.
By:
Fair play to Dustin Johnson , he played well despite all the messing about re stupid rule .
Shane Lowry just did not play well in final round , 6 over is just not good enough even if you start with a 4 shot lead . Not all his fault though , the USGA officials haven't a clue . Both Lowry and Johnson suffered one shot penalties for "moving ball" . Greens running about 14 on the stimpmeter , a breath of wind can move a ball in those conditions . Bad rule anyway , player should only be punished if he touches the ball , when you address the ball you never hit it , so the "address" rule is a nonsense . Always was . |
By:
I think Shane bottled it last night ,he was like the boxer ,you know the kind I mean, taking a beating then turns to the ref complaining that his opponents hitting him on the back of the head , you know straight away hes beat . Shane was telling markers to go on to his left side etc. All the signs were there from a early stage ,he simply forgot to play his own game . That performence could haunt him for years to come.
By:
Hopefully Shane will have learnt from last night , he would have been second on his own but for that one shot penalty ( which he called on himself , despite the fact that he had not touched the ball , bonkers rule.).
He would have maybe won outright but for 3 putting 3 holes in a row . Whether those 3 putts were the result of bad approach shots is open to question . Not helped by rules officials messing up all concerned , OK if you are not in contention , but if you are in the eye of the storm when the info breaks about your nearest challenger , it is bound to upset you . The fact that Shane and Dustin were both penalised a shot for doing nothing wrong shows up big flaws in the rule . That Rory and Spieth and Ricky took to the airwaves immediately also shows up the level of discontent associated with the daft out of date rule fashioned in the 19th century . |
By:
i dont think he bottled it at all.he lipped out twice and was inches away from a perfect shot 3 times but the ball rolled back 50 ft..another day he would have got par playing the same..we should all be proud of his performance and lets hope he makes the ryder cup and olympics..
By:
I agree with Kavvie.
A brutal course, very easy to tumble backwards. People far to quick to reach for the 'choke' label. A great learning experience for him, all told. |
By:
No Pro 3 putts consecutive greens ,I think his bottle went ,tell me any player who has done that before...
By:
Trouble is Ozy , he may never again be leading a Major by 4 shots going into the final round . He will survive the experience , but not to be very upset by missing out aint a natural reaction . There is always fallout from this type of experience , some lap it up and try harder , others let it affect them in a minus way . Hopefully the Lowry connection and sporting experience will put him back in pitching , the sooner the better .
By:
On that course that week alone, there were any number of consecutive 3 putts.
Who knows how he will react, but he is young and appears resilient so I would have thought he is far better prepared to contend and win majorsgoing forward than he was this time last week. A big step forward imo. |
By:
3 on the trot Ozy, name them ..

How Irish this thread?
Lowery is championed for being a legendary drinker and APOB is often looked on as being somewhat peculiar for being a pioneer. The p1ss head soccer supporters are another example of this diseased culture, the champion drinkers who celebrate getting hammered in every sense,an embarrassment as Keane rightly pointed out 4 years ago. in this level of professional sport, margins are wafer thin. One could certainly suggest that Lowery's physical condition was a major contributing factor with his rigorous schedule. The vast majority of the top players aren't in top physical condition for the crack of it. Lowery seems a likable fellow but it's folly not to address such a blatant handicap. |

*Lowry*

By:
You stated 'consecutive' which I took to mean 2 in a row, which would be common on this course.
