Great win for Harzand but I feel sorry for John oxx. Trained the sire and dam of Harzand and was badly treated by aga Khan even though I must admit I don't know the full story behind the split. Only assumed it was over murtagh.

John Oxx is a really nice fellow and it's not nice to see his demise, and it makes it a hell of a lot worse to see pink rinse benefit .
Saying that , even though he was a great trainer , his methods became outdated and his unwillingness to change meant the axe was brought down on top of him . 2 yo s making their debuts in October or in most cases not making the track , 3yos not making their racecourse debuts until maybe August and I've even seen cases where he ran 4yos in Roscommon ist time out. Well simply times have changed and nobody was going to stand for that nonsensical patience for ever, the winner of the 2000 Guineas has ran in the first 2 yo race of the season nowadays , if Oxx had it then it would possibly not even run at 2. Did Oxx ever have a 2yo runner at Ascot, I'd say no, well surely all his horses couldn't be backward . The Derby is over and Oxx has no winner this year, not one. Doesn't that tell you everything you need to know. |
