Just meant to be a light hearted exercise, the variables are too wide as you come across slow maturing ones, different trainer methods and a whole lot of other factors but lets take a look at a fella that is in the news at the moment( Adrian Keatley) and one of his.
Northern Sky (3yo foaled 12th March) rated 52 Out of Danehill Dancer and Moon Flower,i'm so bad at breeding and will accept any criticism but what harm. Seems quite well bred, obviously plenty of speed with Danehill, the dam is very well bred but disappointed on the track with just a 10f maiden to her credit, still ought to provide a bit of stamina, nice match and woul think 10f would be around right with them.
On what he has shown to date, No run as a 2yo,i've no idea of the reason for that. Made his debut on the 20th March where he finished 19th of 25 beaten 17L(66/1),a hot maiden wouldn'texpect too much here. His next run was another hot Curragh maiden,(soft 10f),went off at 100/1 and finished 37L behind US Army Ranger, was up there til 2f out is the only positve from that race, wouldn't expect him to be involved but was beaten far in the end. His next was a soft ground mile at Limerick, went off 66/1 and last in a 6 horse field, the winner that day Maneen has franked that form yesterday. I think he starts to show promise here, wasn't beaten too far(11L) and while the backmarker for the race stayed on quite well. On that trio the handicapper gave him 52, i think he couldn't do much else. His last run at Roscommon(50/1 10f soft to heavy) was a nice run, about 10th into the straight ran on nicely to finish 4th,beaten just over a length. A run i thought he is just starting to get the hang of things.
Overall my opinion of him is he was quite greem/immature up to now,the Roscommon run suggests to me he is finding his way and is potentially on a lenient mark.
Well thought out Pa , nice profile , not sure Mr Keatley will be happy you highlighting one of his though , the proper discription re the breeding is By Danehill Dancer out of Moon Flower hths . Mr Keatley now under the forum microscope ...

Worth keeping a eye on this one , lets see were it takes us .Whos to know were it'll lead, maybe you'll end up with one of those dark horses type books. It'll keep us amused anyway , do you know if its entered up ?

Should you be expecting much more for Northern Sky? Perhaps there is a bit of improvement still. All his runs on soft?

Very interesting angle Kinscem and thorough as well. As said i'm no great shakes with breeding, while Northern Sky i think handles ease there certainly as you say faster could be better. Moon Flowers progeny have done quite well all in all, which is a positive. My gut feeling is Northern Sky will be at least mid 70,s before the summer is out, that is just conjecture though.
Any one else care to contribute their "dark horse", i can understand reluctance though.

pa, the pedigree here is poetry. From Danehill Dancer's last crop - 40k cover - he was probably bought in at a hundred grand (from the nagle factory) and Wachman had him as a 2yo with Mrs J M listed as part owner in the registered partnership. so you're talking former royalty here from a pedigree that traces to Last Tycoon fairly recently.
He couldn't find a buyer for 1800 yet they left him go rather than shoot him. After keatley's wonders with a hannon reject they would say not many wachman horses get missed although there's something odd about DW's operation this year. I'm half of the view he's winding down a bit.

You used to have cracking threads with "dark ones" Royal Academy. Good post and again with Kinscem's it is an education, sometimes it's listening time. As bad as i am i could see Moon Flower was meant to be way better than she turned out. On the runs themselves i think the horse is coming to hand and the penny is dropping, off that mark i think it will be sooner rather than later.

You’re a likely correct RA in relation to Wachman. Without going into detail, it would be better for all concerned if someone else took over the role from what I hear.

Hello TTK,funny thing back in Cork a few weeks ago i met a fella i didn't see in years,he told me watch out for Wachmanns 2yos,i actually was keeping an eye because i thought that could have come from WL connection but talk about misinformation.
@ Kinscem 19.41. I think it is a straight forward case of the horse just needing a bit of time,it wouldn't be near good enough to be involved in its first few races anyway.
@ The Gigilo 02.23
As an aside i'm wondering do you live in Australia as you always seem to post in the middle of the night. I know, his one that won yesterday is also down to run but will be no price. Alright "evaluating" the one but now there is another dozen to, i've all but not bothered with UK racing for the past few years, much prefer the Irish racing as it is easier and a lot less of it. As a class 6 obviously a weak enough race,on runs so far Wotabreeze,Rubis and My Valentino have performed well enough in the grade to say they can be involved, add in Bell and Dunlop enteries also to the mix. I would so much prefer if Northern Sky was running in a one turn mile in Ireland though i think the long Hamilton straight will suit. Regarding the sp i think it will be shorter though in theory should be longer than your quote, and that is only because historically his are punted like the proverbial bejaysus.

The 7/2 -4/1 will be opening books prices, very surprised if not backed probably fav. I work till 2am most nights doing the form as so many meetings and always two days infront, never do form the day or night before that way I can see whats being planned for future races a lot clearer.A fair while back I sent you a pm,which I take you never read by some of the remarks you made to me,i also had a thread on general betting where I was putting up bets everyday with prices and profits till recently.Stopped doing it as too much work to do,put i still post on puntersmate and a thread I've been running on talking horses, you can just google it and look in don't have to register..

Checking back on pms i did see one dated 30th dec,it probably is a couple of years ago,i can't remember seeing it before. Sincere apologies if i caused you any offence it certainly isn't my intention on here, saying that it is very possible i got the wrong end of a stick somewhere and hence remarks,i'm sorry if that is the case. I did see that general betting thread and followed it for the early part, thought it was quite brilliant.

No problem, like i said the talking horses forum is open to anyone to see been posting on there 6 years will be 1/2 million views soon don't put many bets on there as i used to,the point to point poster on there is the best around as well.I don't really get involved with discussions on forums just post the odd few bets up,or ante post or horses to follow, been posting more on puntersmate as bloke puts a lot of work into it,although you have to register for that one. I did put some bets on here but they kept getting taken down,i know who got them removed that's why i pop up now again just to irritate them, for some reason they thought i was easy gold so just kept posting playing along..think it's blatantly obvious by the general betting thread that i couldn't possibly have been him or any other poster.

A few on here get their posts/selections taken down,i'm sure they would love to know the reason. Quiet forum here now but still few knowledgable people around as judging by replies by others on the thread and picks put up over the weekend in a variety of sports. Good luck with your punting.

Heading for an sp of around 2/1 and no surprise if less. I did him last night ew at 4/1,not a huge bet as as said above find it hard to evaluate the field and while think the penny is dropping possible it still needs a little more time. Pure mugs bet a yankee and while i did them singulary think these 3 at Gowran will give a fair go off the ew part anyway. Without writing War and Peace, Chestnut Fire 6.30 Came from miles back at Leopardstown last time, but typical tough handicap with a load of dangers but hopefully 4 places. Beechmount Whisper 7.00 Looks as if improving and another that seems sure to run well. Elusive in Paris 8.30 This headcase owes me nothing unlike Beechwood, worth the penalty from Killarney,it was a whoosh and hoping for a similar good ride.
Looking forward to seeing how Northern Sky gets on and if he doesn't do it today we will see is there any possibility in the future.

Yes a bit disappointing, every chance and just outstayed by the one with the best British form. Certainly seemed as if no excuses and tend to agree it could be tough to win one as today looked the day.

Arguably Michael Hussey wasn't over hard on the horse at Roscommon and finished far too close for comfort - the 5th won since at Navan so today's only question was: was he off?
I suspect Keatley wouldn't have thought the Roscommon performance his finest hour.
I also see the English handicapper accepted the irish mark; not sure how prevalent that is today and maybe only the more obvious names suffer?

Will struggle to win off that mark looking at the times from the two class 6 races over the trip,so probably worth giving it a chance on softer ground that's how I priced it up anyway as grounds usually overwatered but was pretty quivk.

@ Workrider, They are a type of thread i like as well even if i wasn't involved, in fairness a few made valid contributions and while grand to get a winner getting the price right is nice bonus, easier said than done with the winner part, the price part is a bit easier alright.
@ Royal Academy, I thought he ran almost exactly to the Roscommon run,i think it was "off" as well, there was just too much money on it. I'd be open to correction on this and it is a point which could do with being clarified. Would the flat handicapping be the same in both countries unlike the NH ratings which are a general 4/5 lb discrepancy? The "obvious" names could well be giving extra and without checking nearly sure it was the case at one time with C Byrnes Domination.
@ The Giggilo I think so,but the mark is so low,can see it running with credit in 45-65 in Ireland or C6 over and will probably get one sometime but not for me to follow. Maybe being a bit harsh my view he got a good "tow" into the race, someone else thought he used up too much early going with the 1st 2,i can see that point as well.
Anyway not a good day, Gary Halpin i thought might exonerate himself in the 8.30 after Beechmount Whisper earlier,i had to dig out the bottle after that.

Think it is a thread worth resurrecting as that Hamilton run would have divided opinion,to be honest i'm stll unsure about it. In the meantime since for what looked like a fairly innocous race it has proved to be actually quite a good one,the 3rd,5th,6th and 7th have won a fair few races between them albeit in the very lower sphere.
Tomorrows race is again a 45-65 and even for that poor enough to me with just 4 of the 13 having a realistic chance.
Northern Sky Taking on his elders here and wears blinkers first time, trip and ground look ideal.
Miss Ballygally She broke poorly at Tipp and yet ran out a fairly decisive winner,i think she was a slight bit fortunate as the unseated horse seemed to hold the field from getting away from her early,i might be crabbing her a bit but she currently the form horse, she ran in Sligo and while unfancied at 50's was a creditable 3rd,my overall impression is she is a bit one paced though in the context of this race that could do.
Cheval Rouge Has to get a mention as won over C+D off 84 albeit 3 years ago(58 tomoorow). Probably will be better for the run after the layoff but she seems to need a bit of rain to show her best.
Libertys Gift Been chasing and hasn't done bad with a win against King Blue and a 3rd to Lily The Lioness the pick, last year a couple of seconds and a win around this trip would have to be considered in a race like this. Tap focus would probably be the only other worth a mention though a poor last run.
I don't know,is it worth another chance? the blinkers look as if they mean business and a poor race.

10/1 bar.

He might well win but he certainly hasn't got 15-20 pounds up his sleeve like you might have thought on its previous run. Im sure it will be juiced out of its head for tomorrow night! Miss Ballgally is ordinary enough and will probably be supported in the market with it being a local horse. The horse with the best form in the race is Tap Focus who would win this easily on his second to Red House Hill(Was given a stinking ride by Smullen in leopardstown during the week) Bolgers horses are running decent and would forgive its last run. Ground was atrocious that night. Anything bigger than 7/1 is a gift.

Fair enough,i didn't want to totally dismiss her,it was a decent staying on effort at Limerick, probably as you say was the ground at Tipp as there was no reason for such a dramatic turnaround with the winner from Limerick. Other than Limerick a fair few very average runs all in all,i hate backing a horse that ran a stinker last time myself but that's a personal thing as there could well be valid exxcuses. I did think Northern Sky had a few pounds at Hamilton but as said i was a bit disappointed,i think it's a fair comment by yourself that "it could well win" but that might be it.

Would always forgive a horse a poor run second run of the season. Third run is the time to catch them. She has had some really decent runs last season compared to the muck on offer here.
As for Northern Sky, the race he contested over in Scotland is worth nothing. The standard of race over there is horrendous. All you have to do is look at the success of Pat Shanahan has with absolute donkeys over there to realise that.
By the way his Jock Wae Hae will bolt up there tomorrow. Never traveled last time but won easy. Cheekpieces on and will bolt up.

I have backed Northern Sky @ 5/2 although just an average one. Very possible it will be backed though i thought it would be cut by now,by the time the final sp comes around the usual punt on a Keatley horse may materialise but equally mightn't. Also out on the 9/2 on Libertys Gift, that was available at 8/1,it is getting backed though and may be near enough, when i first saw the prices i thought mistake as given a chaser a bit much credit, still form is there at near enough the distance and respect the trainer. Not too far out with the rest at the moment.

Id say the ground will be soft/heavy by race time looking at the forecast. I wont be having a bet on Tap Focus because of this. Cheval Rouge would be interesting but is coming back very quickly after its seasonal debut and has a hopless rider on board so no go.

Sligo 7.00 Chips Are Down. Came back from 4 years off and has had three runs the last of which he traveled and finished well. Has won over course and distance and won on Soft/Heavy. Trainer has had a winner over the last week and at 28/1-33/1 has a chance from a good draw off 21 pounds lower mark than last winning mark

I'd have preferred to see a bit of money for it,using Anonymous Lady from the same stable as a guide,we all know what happens. Keatley has said he may pay his way through the summer in an interview, whether the "summer" part was possibly alluding to better ground i don't know,he has handled ease but doubt he would want it extreme. Weak betting race, soft ground Cheval Rouge and certain stayer Libertys Gift have a bit of support, probably on the back of the weather forecast BWS highlighted. As an aside 5e on the 8.30 and a big fat 0 on the last were the amounts matched on here at near midnight. Ha,You must be expecting a touch of frost or something if you are having stew Park Express.

It looked the winner about 5 furlongs out, I know the ground was not ideal but wonder what the big drift in the market was about (Not that I am complaining!)

A great spot by the forums most consistent poster. I don't like putting the mockers on it but I backed it on the basis of this write up,I also liked the fact he was just behind Ceol Na Nog on his handicap debut in Roscommon.

I,m delighted ye had a few bob on, formwise i thought it had a great chance and hence i thought it would go off 5/4 and not the 9/2,i suppose it isn't that much out. Really liked Touch of Frost,s last run(worth a look) though that was on g/f,if somehow the rain isn't that bad he might be worth something, gut feeling is maybe that g/f really suited but has ran creditably with ease.

Thanks Banjackst/RA. Ha Workrider, maybe Keatley is right and may pay his way for the summer and wonder is there another one yet to get above the 70 mark? Poor race overall, Miss Ballygally made up the bones of a dozen lengths from 3f out,Tipp wasn't a flash in the pan and with cut and similar class will win again. Thought Noel Kellys Shumaker showed enough to get a weak maiden and probably will like his end up on the boat for one. Great contributions from people on the thread.

No doubt Miss Ballygally was an eyecatcher to more than myself that night,i was impressed and while it was a poorish looking race tomorrows 45-65 looks only marginally better. Dixie Highway,Greanta,Athenry Boy,House Limit all have an obvious chance. Hopefully the bit of rain this evening will make it more yielding than good, Conor Hoban is back on her again, i think she looks sure to be running on and looks a cracking ew at 9/2 to me.

Pa Miss Ballygally wont win! McNiff's horses are always eyecathers because they are all ridden out the back. She has no room off this mark. There are far better handicaped horses in this race.
Dixie Highway should win this by 10L pulling up off this mark. Thought he was going to be a decent horse after his first couple of flat runs but through to form Flynn has f ucked the horse up. Id say the horse has got back right himself in spite of Flynn and will win. Only dangers are Ben Rumson and Artiste Celebre.

I agree regarding Dixie BWS,very dangerous, should have won at Bellewstown, off the weights today surely should be there.
As said earlier in the thread i thought the Tipp run was just a flash in the pan, fair enough with being ridden out the back,i thought that was a bit exceptional, though the 1st half dozen were close enough and Penelope Pitstop blazed she still made up a dozen lths in 2f. She was off 2 years and still persevering with her,i'm kind of inclined to give her mid 70's as i think she could well be improving. I would have a concern about her getting a clear run around here with last time tactics. Drop of rain last night made it yielding to soft, that'll suit her but suits a fair few others as well. Best of luck for the meeting.
