Been keeping my powder dry recently but am looking to get involved this week for with a lot of value around.

Main bets are

Patrick Reed 60 & Emiliano Grillo 280, Grillo is a GIR guy and we've seen players like (Na, Kisner and Lingmerth) who I would consider in his bracket, do very well in this tournament. It is his debut but course looks ideal.

Reed's form this season is excellent. He invariably is in contention each time he tees it up. A poor weekend in Qual Hollow means we get a very generous 55-60 on here and I have backed him eW in the books as well.

Also like Fabien Gomez, Shane Lowry & Francesco Molinari who are all trading at + 200/1. It's a tournament that can throw up a flier!

3 movers today kavvie , you have got two of them , Sergio ( 30/1) , Matsuyama ( 28/1) . other one is Spieth( 10/1 , layable at 10).  Always money for the Japanese guy , guess there aren't too many bookies in Japan . He was 40/1 for the Masters , and layable on here at 6/1 a place .

Have not looked at the place market on here to date , they were betting wide on it on here early , Stans fault I reckon ( 1-7 , 1/4) --not PP's , 1/5 1-7 .
Report callitasucit May 12, 2016 11:14 AM BST
All 6 places.

I don't really fancy any of the Big 3 this week, there are valid grounds for opposing all of them. The 4 fancied selections I went for all have a bit of a Timeform squiggle regarding their closing out ability, but all are excellent ball strikers suited to this slightly quirky test. I would be surprised if 2 of them aren't in the heel of the hunt come Sunday, and represent value with the 6 places.

The 4 rags all have bits and prices going for them too. I would be particularly sweet on Lingmerth, though KJ Choi is a massive price on here at around 350 and I have had a bit extra on there to trade if he does contend.

Players Championship Selections

Evening All, OK, so this is my favourite event of the year. There are two reasons for this, one is that I love the course & the drama it delivers & secondly time & time again the winner comes from the same identikit formula, which has lead me to some great results over the years, the most recent being Kaymer a couple of years ago. Going back to 2004 when Adam Scott one the formula is pretty simple as follows;

1 Every winner has played the event at least twice before & with the average being about 5 or 6 starts. Scott himself was the only one to win on 3rd visit. Equally you don't see some finally winning this after 15 starts etc.
2 Every winner had previously had a previous high finish in the event. Again Scott was the lowest at 17th the previous year whilst even less heralded winners Clark & Funk had finished 9th & 10th respectively the previous year to winning. Ames had been 2nd before, Kaymer had been 15th, Kuch 13th, KJ 16th , Sergio 2nd, Henrik 3rd.
3 Every winner had played & made the cut the previous year in the event.

Add to this that the vast majority of winners are proven tour winners who have either won a major or are at least a proven tour winner of bigger events or have played Ryder/Presidents Cup. Basically you don't got first time winners here,  [not since Perks anyway!] although off course like Kisner last year someone inevitably goes close. Also perhaps even more interestingly as this is know as "the 5th major" several winners are in the bracket of players who have contended in majors bet have never quite been able to get over the line with Sergio, Stenson, Kuch, KJ & Clark being obvious examples of this over recent years.

Finally Good form coming in obviously helps. KJ was flying the year he won. Ames was 7th the week before. Kaymer had lead half way @ Quail Hollow the week before etc.

Now obviously stats are there to be broken & ultimately if Spieth is stood on the 17th on Sunday tied for the lead he's not going to be thinking 'I missed the cut last year so I can't win this!' However as I've said the formula has done well for me over the recent years so I'm going to stick with it. Straight away therefore off my list goes Rose, Day, Spieth, Mickelson, Walker, Sneds, Kuch as they all missed the cut last year along with the likes of Bubba, DJ, Willett, Grace for a lack of course form. When I then narrow it down to the the type pedigree of player required, the previous decent finish, the rough relevant number of starts & the made cut last year, I was left on my long list with Rory, Sergio, Stenson, Kaymer, Hideki, Zach, JB, Haas, Leishman, Kirk, Knox, Horschel & Scott and I wouldn't put anyone off any of these. However you have to narrow it down & I've settled for the following 6 players this week;

S Garcia      25-1 1pt e/w 1/4 1st 7
H Matsuyama   30-1 1pt e/w 1/4 1st 6
B Horschel    60-1 1pt e/w 1/5 1st 7
R Knox        80-1 1pt e/w 1/4 1st 7
c kirk        80-1 1pt e/w 1/4 1st 7
M Leishman   100-1 1pt e/w 1/4 1st 7

Good luck all & enjoy the drama!

Haven't done the figures, but afternoon scores must have been about 2.5/3 shots on average worse than this morning?

With no such wind around tomorrow, it will be a mighty feat from anyone in the latter half to be victorious. Feck all se to me!!

Cracking round from Matsuyama though, finishing 4 under having thrown in 2 DB's.
Report Kelly May 13, 2016 12:05 AM BST
Scoring pattern about right , callit , Matsuyama was mightily helped by holing out from a long bunker shot.

Rory made mistake after mistake , his chipping saved him from being over par . Not looking the player he should be .
Report callitasucit May 13, 2016 12:14 AM BST
Yeah nice hole out from Matsuyama, but would more than likely have made par had it not gone in, so hardly massive. Just the one shot.

Throwing away 2 shots (basically 2.5 in real terms)on a soft par 5, the third easiest hole on the course was far more influential on his scorecard.

Day has had some cracking rounds of late, and then thrown in a few wobblers. Interesting to see how he goes tomorrow, on a course he has never threatened to take apart before.

One of the worst betting mediums known to man kind. Consistently misrepresented long price winners on here where individual winners are only quoted after the event ignoring the outright price of the effective dutch. Losing threads for 3 years at best prices with unlimited banks isn't recognised as it's not popular to say it. There isn't an edge available and ye have all proven it.

Plenty of people can manage the premium charge aspect, but if they are successful and playing in big amounts, they may struggle as they are likely to little other methods to get their bets on.

Tolmi went through some parts of this before with Kelly, who could not discuss and DJ also discussed it from memory.

I manage it quite well as I would be down overall let alone not paying at least 20% on my profits.
Report pa lapsy May 14, 2016 11:01 AM BST
Not necessary big amounts.

In '09 and after joining betfair newbies received a cd with the basic workings of the exchange.i go so far as to say a person was encouraged to stick to them guidlines for at least a fair while. This resulted in pure pc "territory" by the hand of betfair themselves.

What's with Rory , 2 very average rounds and one absolutely brilliant round ? Same course , same ball , same clubs , same caddie . Is it all in the mind ?
