These are treated as novelty bets nowadays.
Years back I knew a racegoer who flew out to the host city every year, listened to the rehearsals and punted accordingly. He seemed incredibly successful,it was a time of tax on bets so lots of illegals, especially on the Stock Exchange,he managed to get huge bets on. The favourite seems to win it every year, similar to Rose of Tralee in that fashion. A recommendation from Keen Leader coupled with all the stats in your favour,Russia have to be backed. |

The stage performance for the russian song is very clever ; but the song is not a 2.22 fav, i backed Poland at 9/2 to make the top 10 myself. i have to agree with K.L on the irish song, it wont be our 8th winner thats for sure.

I suppose backing a song you haven't heard seems madness but when you consider who put it up and the stats it doesn't matter, you are going to collect.
Did the favourites always win the Eurovision ? I know Johnny Logan's first winner was a 12/1 shot. I presume Mary Hopkin was favourite when Dana won. Cliff Richard was surely favourite in his years. I think this favourite thing is a new phenomenon. |

The favs have a very good record in the last 10 eurovisions Wildman, a least 7 of them have won.
|
|
By:
Youtube has the songs up months in advance ,that coupled with online pools probably makes it easier to see who the voters will be voting for probably why the favs do well now.

Despite what WMFB says, have these Eurovision threads not been big loss makers for the past couple of years?
Ozy can confirm but I thought Roger De Bris was the man that had nailed the last few. Russia were 5/1 a while back so it is very much the bottom price now anyway. UK to beat Ireland looked a gift at 4/9 earlier in the week with PP although getting it was a different matter. |

As frank says, the favs seem to be doing very well now.
It is not quite the Rose of Tralee farce, but the heavily backed ones continually deliver. I think Serbia, France, Sweden, Germany were just some that were very well punted close to the event and delivered. |

Keen Leaders Iceland failed to quilify last night [ it looked like a copy of Swedens winner a few years ago] , Temlett Austrias bearded lady took the bookies for a few quid 2years ago but they are wise to any so called outsiders . I had a chat with one of Boyles managers yesterday and he told me theres very little interest so far in Eurovision 2016.

By:
in fairness to KL, his recommendation for Iceland was conditional on reaching the final. KL's record on this over the years is one of the best reasons for coming on here - despite a blip last year.

i was frankly surprised at him picking israel last year..no fault to the song but i dont think israel tops many peoples favourite nation picks..

After a stellar few years, Keen Leader has made a horlicks of this event for the last couple of years.
Roger de EasyGob did indeed produce a great preview last year and came up with the winner. Not up to speed with this years event. Have just listened to Russia's entry. Good looking guy, great production, not sold on the song yet. Winners in recent years have almost all been really good deserving songs. No idea what the competition sounds like etc. |
|
By:
Strange that Roger hasn't piped up after last years success.
Strange too that he disappeared the same time as Easygold. Will we see their likes no More? |
|
By:
Watching this is bad enough, betting on it you should be strung up. Similar sentiments about long odds on certainties expressed over last couple of years and were beaten but op never revisited.

I'm in after seeing some of the beores
Vote to stay in |
|
By:
I've backed Russia without hearing their song, without hearing any song.
I suppose that makes me a problem gambler although when I'm collecting I won't care. |
|
By:
Same as above poster. Backed it at 2.3 tuesday, 1.59 now?
|
|
By:
Backed like it is home and hosed. Must be coasting on the polls etc.
I hope the Russian guy doesn't faint on ye mid performance as he did last month. |
|
By:
A lot of money on Australia down to 3/1, hope Russia dont win [laid them at 7/4 ] i love the Italian entry a real grower of a song.
|
|
By:
My reserach is as thin as just listening to both Australia nad Russia's song. Russia's production is stunning but I prefer the Australian song. Sung by what Borneo would term an 'Oriental', not sure how that will go down in his beloved Eastern Block .
|
|
By:
The Russian production is indeed stunning Oz, [i heard they spend many Rubles on it] the producion seems to be as important as the song these days.I believe the Chinese love the Eurovision they might be allowed in it next year.

Look what's jumped on the bandwagon, even he can't sink this one.
Note the caution, note how he waited for the price to collapse before he ventured an opinion. Ome thing is certain no money was risked. |

On at 10/11, happy enough with that as I had heard all the songs when putting the dinero instead of betting on the blin which some on here done ;)

At 9.22pm Russia were 1.59 to back , they were not even close to 10/11 at 928pm
|
|
By:
I wonder where our resident non betting fantasist found the 10/11.
|
|
By:
Cool but i backed it a few minutes after that 10/11

Going in at 2's mates

Anyone who backed Russia is in some Shiite , although on production of a docket then you would surely be entitled to a couple of free weeks in John O Gods, so all may not be lost.
|

By:
5/2 lads here i go again
|
|
By:
Russia are 100000/1 , that's their real price. They cannot possibly win now.

Had a nibble at nearly 3's in for the whole hog now.

I think there is a serious mistake being made by some absolute guessers, this is the national durys the popular vote has still to come.
