Was not aware of this operation until I used them recently in Australia . Strikes me as a brilliant business model , and I saw one of them over the weekend in Belfast .
Flourishing apparently in a lot of places world wide , why wouldn't they ?
Going to knock the rump out of the more traditional taxi services I suspect , provided they evade any trouble with some of our less savoury denizens .
Thing I liked about them in Australia was that most of their operatives spoke a language I understood , again most of their drivers had interesting pasts and were doing their current operation because of economic fallout associated with downturns in more traditional local employment . Can only see it operating successfully in major conurbation areas though .

Coincidentally heard a piece about Uber this evening on the radio , 720 station ( cricket on it normally for me ). According to this report there are over a million participating world wide on Uber , and there were some pertinent comments . Supply and demand has reduced the drivers earnings from a mid 25 dollars an hour to more like 15 dollars , which is hardly going to make it ultra attractive . In Australia they refused tips , which would be the norm here for traditional taxis . I like their rating system --for drivers and of passengers-- all in favour of transparency I am .
Our local taxis have got pricier in the last 5 years , competition from uber might just cool their jets a bit . |

I think the Dublin taxi drivers would resort to intimidation and violence to stop Uber coming to town.

the beauty of it is that theres no public show that ur an uber taxi.u text.or email.ur told by email or text "james" in a blue avensis will pick you up at the corner of x street outside the betfair arms in 5 min.no money changes hands,.its all done by credit card which uber has details of..

Kavvie ,the one I saw over the weekend in Belfast had an UBER sign on it a la other more established "value" cabs have .
Might depend up here on whether some of our more fringe operators dial into the scene , plus or minus . Not exactly sure how the paying process / authorisation of the credit / debit card works eg can the children use their parents card ? Did not pay any of the fares directly myself ( anyway I have never sent a text message in my life so off piste for me at moment ). |

the parent gives details.i think they have a very safe systen etc,then ur child texts/mails wen they want taxi on ur password etc..
