The Supreme is a cracking race ,it wouldn,t surprise me if Min or Yorkhill didn,t win it, when you see last years Bumper winner Moon racer at 22/1 here for the race it would give you an idea of the strength of the contest. Nice write up Callit.

Moon racer is unbeaten Willy, he won all of his 3 races well, the Pipes have had there problems with him its true. but i look forward to see how he runs. I was in P.P. yesterday and Barry Geraghty was keen on the chances of Altior in the race.

I see Boyles are giving money back as a free bet if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd in any race at Cheltenham, you must avail of the free bet on the same day as you place you bet.[ see Boyles site]

Moon Racer price is based on the fact we haven't seen him over hurdles though Frank and that he isn't a certain runner or certain to be the same horse, not on the calibre of opposition.
I wouldn't particularly fancy Altior. As stated before I think he needs further/isn't quick enough.
But I wouldn't be mad on anything lese if Min came out. Supaundae and Silver Concorde may be worth a second look in that scenario.
It may sound silly, but I think Yorkhill would be a better bet without Min(with Min in the race), than if Min comes out. The market always overreacts to jockey bookings, and if Min lines up, and Ruby rides, suddenly the interest in YH will wane. He will be no less likely to beat the rest, though will be a bigger price to do so (granted a 100% book)

nice write up callit,..i must take you to task about one tho..barters hill will piss up with a clear round, this horse is a monster, i spoke with his trainer on monday he thinks hes beat the only horse that has a chance already, hes bound to be biased, but i cannot see how you can say shantou will beat barters ..barters will go off a wellbacked favorite of that theres no doubt, but its all about opinions i just think your disrespecting a horse thats unbeaten and not giving a reason why?

Our Father could be another for Elliot. Its only 5 runs since he started fav for a Hennessy off an 8lb higher mark. The Kim Muir is no Hennessy, and though he is getting on, a similar sort in The Package won it last year. With Nina in the saddle, he could be a lot shorter come post time.
Our Father is out of the Kim Muir and misses Cheltenham according to Spoilsports.

Until the greatest show on turf begins. The usual rumour mill is on full tilt, with reports Ruby is riding Yorkhill in the Supreme over Min. To be fair Willie, though slow in naming targets, has always been pretty upfront as regards his horses well being. If he says all is well with Min, I wouldn't doubt him. As sure as night follows day, Ruby wont be 'choosing' Yorkhill over Min. If he's riding YH, Min will be at home. I believe he will be on Min, and win on it.
David Casey interestingly enough says he doesn't think Min is as good as Douvan(well who or what is!!), or indeed Champagne Fever. That may be disturbing for ante post Min backers, but it shouldn't be. CF has ultimately proved disappointing with time, but was a bloody good winner of the Supreme. Indeed Timeform rated him one of the highest rated winners in recent times. And this is an egg and spoon race compared to that renewal(Min apart). Douvan looks an absolute machine, and I agree with Tom Segal that he could win the Arkle and stay out on the track and win the CH. Different gravy. Even Jenny Pitman couldn't get this beat in the Arkle.
For a bet in that race, I will be looking to get with Sizing John without. Disappointed he is taking this option, as I had backed him for the JLT. Which he would have had a right chance in. De Bromhead is obviously going with the "Never be afraid of one horse adage", and I would agree to the extent that there is very little else to worry about here.
Vanituex is a horse I have long liked, and ear marked him for this at the start of the campaign. I have thought been a little disappointed. He did jump better when the gun was put to his head the last day, but with Shaneshill disaapointing he beat very little. The way he couldn't put the race to bed at Kempton over Xmas is worrying. Sizing John will relish any improvement in the ground, will jump for sport, and will come up the hill better than anything else in behind the monster.
The RSA looks a straight match between two very exciting novices. May be one to watch and enjoy, rather than take one over the other. Unless they were close to evens to dutch with any enhancements that morning. I doubt anything else will finish within 15 lengths of the pair.
The current 9-2 on Sprinter Sacre NRNB looks a cracking e.w bet to me. There looks set to be about 9/10 runners, and even on his below par Kempton run, he would be second in this. UDS is a poor price IMO. His last run at Ascot was probably his best so far over fences, but if SS shows up in the form he was in in November, I think he can do him. On better ground, with the sun on his back, he may have one more huge performance in him. All reports are very good, and I would expect Nico to let him use his jumping and put pressure on UDS from the ditch at the top of the hill. It could be some sight.

Campeador strikes me as one that has been 'lined up' for the Fred Winter. He travelled like a serious beast at Leop over Xmas, backing up the solid French form he brought. Thought he was very well punted that day, reports I had were that he has babyish and needed time. He has got that time, and Elliot knows how to target one. He could go off short......and hack up.
Thursday sees two more 'bankers' in the shape of Thistlecrack and Limini.
Limini if you believe what comes out the yard only has to show up, and in what is a nonsense of a race to be having at the festival, this is probably the case. If she jumps proficiently, she wont be beat.
I love Thistlecrack, and expect him to win, but also expect him to be taken on on the day, and maybe even be 7-7/2-1 on the morning. Cole Harden will deservedly come in for support, and it may be a race where people look for each way value rather than plunge on the jolly.

The Gold Cup promises to be one of the best of all time. What a cracking line up.
I think Vautour will get home better than people expect, granted good ground, and hopefully Ruby will let him flow from an early stage. I wouldn't see the point in restraining him, and dulling his greatest asset his jumping.
I have however been backing Don Cossack from the moment he hit the deck in the KG. Quite how he drifted after that race I don't know. He had come from 1.5 length behind CC to half length up jumping two out. There is little doubt DC is the stringer stayer than the two, so nearly as little doubt that he would won had he stood up. He would then have been about 3s for the GC.
I have a feeling Cooper will ride Don Poli. He has won at the festival on him, got a much needed Grade One on him at Xmas, and little has gone right for him on DC in the big ones. Davy will do the job for me, and I expect him to bring DC home in front.
I couldn't have Djakkadam at all. He will be a drifter. He was third in a very poor GC last year, and looks freer than ever this time around. I will be very surprised if the rest of them stand up, and he wins.

I think I posted it somewhere else, so didn't wanna be repeating myself Tony.
I just don't think he is good enough. It's a decent Albert Bartlett. His jumping isn't quick enough, and I don't think he will be quick enough to lead. If he jumps as poorly as the last day, he will get shuffled back, and I feel his race will be run at halfway.
He obviously could rubbish that theory, he clearly is a decent animal. I just don't think he is equipped for the challenge he will face next Friday. He won't be well backed, he will start bigger than he is now.
He certainly couldn't be backed on his Donny run. What is the horse Pauling was afraid of? Up for review? He is a 5 mile chaser. And he clearly didn't give his running at donny. So the race can be rated through the second. Barters has no chance on that run.
Gangster is a totally different kettle of fish to up for review. He disappointed at Galway when they thought he was cert, but as I posted before his next run, he was wrong and it could be ignored. He has a bit of pace, and IMO is the danger to Shantou.
Tis indeed all about opinions, but I can't for the life of me seeing Barters start shorter than what he is now, 11-4 I think? And if he is I will be laying him all day long.

well i can tell you gangster was laughed at when mentioned on monday, the only reason he was mentioned was because of the mullins team saying hes working well..the only reason barters may be bigger on the day is the money thats already on?..look at the triumph hows that thing still favourite ffs? drifted to 8/1 and got backed in again? i know it was a fair flat horse and the race it won has worked out well..but after the last run?..not for me..barters has beat all commers.look at the bumper @aintree ben saids he s been schooling a lot better cos he said his last 2 at donny was poor, but as he said thats the only time his jumping has looked suspect..before he beat up for review it was the big hope for ireland? its the first time ive herd it called a 5 m chaser?..we,ll see,but i,ll tell you this what ever beats him wins..

I always said Up for Review was a 5 mile chaser. Pretty sure New approach or Apple may have mentioned him as similar to On His Own.
And he didn't in effect beat Up for Review, as he didn't run his race. Its like the way people over rated Nichols Canyon, when he beat a below par Faugheen. The form there was not a beating of Faugheen, but beating Wicklow Brave by under 2 lenghts. The form of his Donny win is an all out one length beating of Ballydine. If Up for Review ran in the AB, I wouldn't expect him to win, but I would love a match bet on him against Barters based on current exchange prices.
Whether Pauling laughed at Gangster or not, would be of absolutely no interest to me.
The money being already on is a mute point. Most people/money that will be betting/bet on the race next week(about 99.999%) will not have had a bet/been bet on it yet. If he is deemed a good price at 11-4 he will be backed, regardless of what relatively small money is on him at bigger prices.
He is 3.9 at the moment.
I respect your opinion Tony, and you clearly like the beast. I don't. Its what makes it a great game.
For the craic if you want a wager on what we are debating, I will say there will be 4-1 available on him at some stage on the Friday on here.
Or alternatively, I will take that he wont be placed.
You get to choose.
I imagine you will be over for Galway this year? Loser has to ply the other with beer until the last race is run on a day of your choice!
No silly money bets, just a bit of banter. If Kavvie is there, he can buy his own!!

All acknowledge the opening post was a well thought out reasoned piece on Cheltenham, its not even political. It was penned by one of our best contributors. How is it gone ? If Betfair didnt remove it,who did and why ? I see the Urban Spaceman on this thread,he seems to be a self appointed arbiter of posts, could he enlighten us ?
Why would Callitasucit post his legendary golf selections when there is an even money chance it won't survive. Who are the losers here, all of us. I like his posts, you don't have to agree but you can't deny he brings his own slant to a discussion.
When you see some of the worthless posters posting with impunity it makes you wonder.

It's pathetic....I assumed that Betfair don't just automatically remove posts if they are reported. They investigate and then decide. Perhaps I am wrong. I cannot understand on what basis anyone would decide to remove it having read it.

It is starting to look like Long Dog will now run in the AB.
I wont back him again myself, as backed him at 20s for it after Galway and also at 16s and 12s to win any race, but the current 16s NRNB for it is an excellent bet.
It is shaping to be a very good AB, and my faith in Shantou remains undimmed, but Long Dog will be no 16-1 shot if he lines up.
A dual Grade One winner, he comes with an unusual tag. Underrated from the WPM/RR corner. He has done nothing wrong, but equally nothing flashy. He is a street fighter, who has been winning over trips too short.
At Galway in the Summer, Ruby put this lad forward as the ideal type for a goof ground AB. That he was but marking time over 2m. No doubt he has surprised them at his ability to win Grade Ones, and a proper one last time over a trip short of his best.
His form over hurdles is in a different parish to Barters Hill.
It seems Yanworth has frightened the life out of most of his possible rivals for the Neptune, and it will result in the best AB we have had since its inception.
The Dog could be King!

I totally agree. Backed Tycoon Prince at 16-1 today for the Martin Pipe. He has the ideal Gigginstown profile for the race and should like the better ground.

strange that betfair would remove a post that poor callit put so much time and effort into, especially as it was totally inoffensive.i would presume that callit has probably crossed some people he shouldnt have with his more offensive posts.

Djakadam has no chance I'd be amazed if he chooses him, particularly after hitting the deck last time plus last years renewal was very poor, Actually been a good few years since we've had a quality gold cup field, it's only when the likes of Kauto and Denman go we realise just how special they were compared to some of the yokes who have won it in the last few years, Synchronised Bobs worth Lord Windermere, all bang average winners. And when a novice wins a gold cup that just proves how bad the staying chasers are

As I mentioned in the opening post, there will be all sorts of rumours about all sorts o rubbish over the next few days. Better to believe none of it.
Chinese whispers can be very dangerous.
Ruby may indeed ride Djakkadam. If vautour doesn't run. Same way it was said on Monday that he was going to ride Yorkhill in the Supreme. He be riding yorkhill alright. In the Neptune.
I don't give djakkadam much chance myself. Think he should be about 10/11-1. Given what Ruby thinks of vautour, if he runs in the GC, he will 100% ride him. If Ruby wanted to ride djakkadam in the GC, Vautour will be in the Ryanair.

He was supposed to be riding Yorkhill in the Supreme and that one almost certainly runs in the Neptune.
Some ould guff being spouted alright in the week ahead.
Can't see him not on Vautour if it runs in that myself though despite better ground will still struggle to get home.

Tony, unlucky with Barters, I thought he would win off the bend.
But as he was ultimately unplaced, I will nominate Temple St. Childrens Hospital for the €50.
Very disappointing Shantou was struck into during the race. I wouldn't write him off, and if I could own one from the race, it would definitely still be him.
