I don't think joe bloggs particularly minds some low level party activist being given a job as a "reward". In some cases given the nature of the job, activists can be best suited to these jobs(Constituency admin staff etc..)
Where there is an issue is the likes of David Begg, Celia Larkin etc... being given memberships of public boards that they have no ability to justify. If party hacks are off limits look who you will get,you get people in the news, activists. Governments scouring the country looking for non political appointees means you end up left wing wreckers. I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. Left wing wreckers are created because of political spinelessness regarding media opinion. Donald Trump has been a god send in this regard.....This is a guy who whether you agree with him or not is despised by liberal media. The public still love him no matter what the media outlets say about him. Irish politicians could learn alot that with strong beliefs and a bit of backbone, they could make major gains rather than trying to pander to the liberal media who represent a small minority of the population. |

Enda Kenny started this nonsense with his nominations to the senate.
Jillian Van Turnhout and Katherine Zapone got in that way,two ladies that couldn't get elected but now are promoting their agenda with impunity. When you are scouring the country for suitable appointees you always find some with an agenda and its always a left wing one. |

But they are party hacks, maybe not officially but at least indirectly. Comical they call themselves independents. Van Turnhout is married to a former member of the Fine Gael executive. Zapone was recommended by Gilmore and is a typical labour type of now a days (was a member of the Irish Human Rights Commission, chief executive of the National Women's Council of Ireland, and a lecturer in the fields of ethics, theology and education). |

A member of the human rights commission, that should have disqualified her from any public office.
I wasn't aware of those connections but they weren't party hacks in so far as they both constantly voted against the government. I was only aware of the damage they did. |

She is very Labour, infact it was on her invite that Joan was in Tallaght that faithfull day she was locked into her car . When some of the students refused to accept their certs from the great lady , citing austerity as the reason . Joan quickly left only to be confronted and her car stopped from leaving .So Zaponne is really a Labour candidate .

You reap what you sow.
Katherine Zappone using her profile as a senator gets elected to the Dail as an independent. She wins the last seat in Dublin South West by a little over a hundred votes, she pips Fine Gaels Anne Marie Dermody. |

Here we go again.
The Ceann Comhairle is now being selected by secret ballot, its against the rules so some charade s being proposed. Maureen OSullivan will now get the job. My earlier description of who gets these jobs holds, its always a left wing activists. " the working class can kiss my ass I've got the foremans job at last " This woman is single, has a teachers pension yet wants the ludicrously highly paid job. Greed gets all those ageing lefties. |
