Lost a sprint finish against a horse that won a 3m PTP?! Doesn't say much for him then
![]() |
By:
Play, the majority of that field came from the p2p world ,as do over 90% of bumper horses. there are fast run bumpers and slow run bumpers . A little insight re speed , Sole Power was one of the fastest sprinters in recent times and needed a STRONG pace to show his finishing SPEED ,doubt he would have won a race from the front , are you starting to understand ?
By:
90% of bumper horses come from the point to point field?
You might want to round that down a little bit. |
By:
So if that bumper was run at a strong pace, and Sole Power was in the field, he'd have won!?

WR I must say that I am surprised to find that Bryan Cooper & Tombstone didn’t appear on the list. He certainly is the one with the most demons to bury after that horses last run.
I had news for Some Neck in the run up to his debut so I was watching him with a close eye. I must again dispute your version of events. The horse joined for the lead about 4 furlongs out but was footless when pressed. He just galloped and galloped up the straight showing no real pace. Gurteen beat him all ends up after giving him a headstart. Allied to the fact that WPM’s strike rate with second time out horses is notably lower than debutants and I would be very reluctant to steam in at the overnight price. He will probably win if there isn’t a star amongst the debutants but there are far more attractive propositions around. |
By:
Also as regards Sole Power, the finishing speed line is a fallacy. The reality was that a fast pace allowed the others to fall in a hole and he slowed down the least.
By:
id say some neck has improved a lot since christmas and the overight price might seem attractive tomoro evening..
By:
You are relying on that though Kavvie. They were in a heap behind him in Leopardstown and Gurteen left him for dust so just a repeat of that run makes him fairly beatable. They have occasionally left horses they felt were good things go to the races undercooked (Champagne Fever the best example) but I wouldn’t like to hang my hat on that being the case with this horse.
By:
Of course he showed speed to finish off his races ,the fact the others had used up theirs makes no difference, the point was he never WON from the front . Tombstone was a HUGE loser for me over Xmas TTK ,but I'm basing my selection on evidence rather than jockey ERROR , one promises i.e. Tombstone ,the other has delivered at this level ,Some Neck did indeed just gallop and gallop , but he needed to have galloped from much futher out , this I believe will be the tactics employed tomorrow...

By:
Some neck is pace less. Mullins bumper horses are useless by his usual standards and this horse looked very slow. Have done 2 singles and a double on The living beauty and Joshua Lane. Hoping Joshua is off. 6/1 and 12/1.
By:
The living beauty looks on a very generous handicap mark. I would be worried by the drop in trip though, I thought they would be going up in trip after her last run.

ivan wins the first easy
Bellshill and tombstone dead heat pont alex wins easy roads to riches wins to the roars of the crowd some neck tops it off and the queues are ten deep at the books, and the on course shop runs out of money. 3 "hard luck" stories in that group, Tombstone, Pont and Some Neck....punters making excuses for horses excites the layers. alas fairytales are for kids and experienced racegoers know that at least 2 if not more of these hotties will bite the dust. if you want one at odds on the day, in the hunter chase, in the betting without on the fringe, BL Swagger is 16/1 and bigger, e/w at those odds will give you a good run for small money. he won easily in east cork recently. it is some laugh when a light of other days(and will never win another race) salsify is shorter price than BL Swagger in that market. In fact I would make Salisfy a 6/4 shot to ever finish in the first three in any track race again. |

Pont Alex will never win a grade 1, would have if injury hadn't interviened,

Poor enough results lads, Bellshill run to bad to be true,he was legless ,maybe a few of them arn't right . Ruby came in for some stick I can tell you, a few even calling for him to pack it in , pocket talk although its becoming a worry everytime he comes to the last. Pont would have been 2nd but for that blunder , again they chose to keep Some Neck handy rather than making more use of him, a good crowd lots from the North and U.K. Back to the drawing board for myself..

WR I don’t know what you are expecting from Some Neck. He is a slow horse who has twice gotten first run on the winner and still well held at the line. Proper horses don’t need to have excuses made for them.
I know I said Bellshill was a lay last night but I must admit I expected him to win after seeing him in the parade ring. Ended up backing Tombstone without the fav but no excuses. When Road To Riches hit 7/4 I also followed him in. The front few paid late for the searching early gallop. Plenty to take from his run though for the future though Grade One chases have become much harder to win than was the case in recent years. Forgive the after timing but backed Outlander & Sunni May to come out ahead on a trying day for most punters. The horse to take from today for me was Blazer. He was only really starting to pick up when they were crossing the line. He could have bundles in hand of his mark. Awful pity what happened in the Hunters chase. Bon looked disconsolate afterwards. Brilliant training from John Kiely to have Carlingford Lough looking fantastic in the ring (not that I could have had him on my mind given the ground). |
