Outraged at the carry on of the biggest Irish bookie begining with "B". Backed Miss Lillie 3.30 Southwell to be placed only @ evens with 8 intended runner. The odds on favorite gets withdrawn at the post. I watched race thinking I now need to be in first 2 places to collect (7 runners). Thankfully I was 2nd, had I not I might have tossed my docket away. I handed in my docket and was told by staff there was a rule 4 of 90c on my selection. I asked to check and after a phone call to Head Office it was confirmed the first 3 home had a 90c rule 4. I am amazed bemused and dumbfounded because had the favorite ran i'd have been 3rd worst case and got the full evens. I'm still pondering how the fu ing hell they can deduct 90% on the 3 placed horses.
They can't,the maximum r4 on any n/r is 75c in euro, you have them on that point alone. I think they should have applied 55c on your bet,ie you would have had a roughly 4/9 winner,betfairs place on your horse was 1.63 which given that was for 3 places returned 1.63 and that supports that your return(E1.10) is well wrong also.

Secondly it appears from your post that they were still paying out on 3 places even though there were only 7 runners?Is that correct?

Yes Tolmi they still paid 3 places. When I did the bet I assumed the favorite would occupy one of the 3 places, on his withdrawl I would have taken evens on 2 places and not 1/10 3 places.

I'd say its one of those instances where the withdrawal works against you.I think you will be on at evens less a 75c Rule 4 I.e. on at 1/4. It can happen that a withdrawal turns your bet into a bet you wouldn't want to be on.

you bet in a specific market, a 3 place one, non runners does not effect the number of playing places but rules 4s apply.
in that specific market today, the favourite was trading at 1/25 with ppowers and 1/20 with boils at the time of withdrawal.
routine markets, win, each way, are governed by standard rule 4 adjustments, these special in-house place only markets are not and each bookmaker has his own way of applying adjustments.
for what it is worth, I think a 90p reduction is fair. the non runner in your market was 1/20, the same horse in the win market was 8/11(a 55p reduction).

For arguments and simplicity sake say Billy Bond was evens and a straight deduction of 50c on the morning prices,your field wouuld end up with 7 runners with odds looking like roughly so;
Lim Lord 6/4 Ms Lillie 7/2 Stun gun 9/2 Poppet Rocket 10/1 The firm 12/1 Bunker H L. 14/1 Humprey R. 14/1
Easy with 2 places, as Ms Ellie would return 1.875 with straight 1/4 of the odds, it does change with 3 places of course but surely not to the extent of 1/10 for a place? Accept place only bets are offered at a bit less on their own but this still looks wrong to me.

the only benefactor from the withdrawl is the horse that finished 3rd, not the 1st and 2nd they would have been place in all circumstances and yet theres a 90% deduction.
These side kick bets are bookies bonanza
