GL Tony, I will take you on in the 3.50.  I though The Job Is Right was overpriced at 6/1.   Back over hurdles, trip is a minimum but 21f on desperate ground should be ok.

Wouldn't work I don't think. You could go for a 6-4 shot in the morning, and it could return 4-6. Basically, 8 Sats, 7 Suns, 4 Chelt days and 3 Aintree days. Ends Grand National day. Few nbs and naps allowed. You worried about Slick unearthing a 10-1 winner?

On the face of it the 1:00 race looks a fairly unattractive betting race. Indeed King Blue as a now ten year old novice is an unusual horse for me to be looking at on Saturday cards. However, he jumps quite proficiently and ran better than his final position in Tramore. He paid the price for going with the gambled on Cyprian Prince late on and walked home in unraceable ground. He has performed well over hurdles off higher marks than 99 and all his runs over fences to date have been decent. Luke Dempsey is a good booking for the horse and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t go well in a very weak race. The following is a brief synopsis of the opposition:

Final Gift: Has a squeak but basically a problem horse
I Knew Well: Won’t be off
Refused A Name: Off for nearly two years and trained by Shark
Easyondeye: Disappointing yak
Derrychrin: Problem yak
Flemenstorm: Couldn’t have him over fences with that head carriage
Rare Legend: Trained by Shark
Sunsetstorise: Can’t jump fences
Ard Cregg: Has an obvious chance but not for me

Without wishing to offend, I hate to find myself agreeing with Tony as I feel he auto defaults to the seemingly obvious too often. However, in the case of Diamond King there looks to be a really decent horse in waiting. I’d say Elliot is counting back from the Coral Cup already. It’s current mark would probably leave it short for a Festival handicap but a win would see it into about 142.

Punchestown 1:35 – Court Frontier

The Conyngham Cup is a race that is always fondly greeted by the racing fraternity given its historical significance, but this year’s renewal sees a very disappointing and depleted field line up to contest the first prize of just over €11,000.

The weights are headed by Unic De Bersy, who after initially proving disappointing for Willie Mullins over hurdles, has progressed well for Gordon Elliott over fences and ran a blinder last time at Fairyhouse, when he was narrowly denied by Witness of Fashion. That was only 8 days ago however and saddled with top weight, this might be a big ask.

Baie Des Iles is a useful mare with some smart French form and she should have won at Limerick on her penultimate start over hurdles. She ran ok over hurdles last time off 126, but she is back over fences off a mark of 130 and that looks about right.

The horse we feel is well ahead of the handicapper is the Alan Fleming trained Court Frontier. The son of Court Cave is a winning pointer after previously racing under rules for Conor O’Dwyer and in his 5 starts back under rules in hunter chases and handicap hurdles/chases, he has shown plenty of ability. He sauntered home in a handicap hurdle on his penultimate start, but it is his runs in hunter chases and last time which really mark him out as well weighted. He got very strange rides in hunter chases, particularly when second to Jack Aboo at Clonmel and then last time at Leopardstown, John Fitzpatrick again gave him a ride which can at best be described as moderate. Fitzpatrick is replaced this time by Roger Quinlan and the horse races off just 1lb higher than when very well backed last time. He does have to reverse form with Bearly Legal and he has a quick reappearance to overcome, but he was not given anything like a hard time over Christmas and if he is ridden to his best advantage here, with a well judged ride in terms of positioning, then he looks very well in off 113 and we could see him collecting a race in the future off a mark of 125 or higher. He rates a decent bet in this contest.



Punchestown 3:50 – Diamond King

Diamond King has yet to open his account for Gordon Elliott in two starts since he left Donald McCain along with nearly everything other than the kitchen sink. However he has shown plenty on both those runs to suggest that he is well up to winning this contest on his way to landing something better as the season continues.

On his first start for his new yard, he was quite well backed at Down Royal, but ran as though he needed the run, keeping on in the straight, but finishing a never nearer 8 lengths 4th to Fethard Player. On his most recent start, he showed much more, as he travelled strongly through the race and looked to be going like the winner as they turned in at Fairyhouse. However when he was let down, he did not quite have the speed to live with Blue Hell and although he ran on well, he was never going to reel in the Alan Fleming horse. He has looked as though a step up in trip will suit him and he gets that here as he races over 2,5 miles. The ground should be an issue for him and with Jack Kennedy claiming 5lb, he is marginally the best in on official ratings, with the most scope for improvement.

Art of Payroll may need this confidence booster, while the ground looks to be against The Job is Right. All Hell Let Loose has to put a poor run over fences last time behind him, while Theophilus is hard to rate, but was very easily beaten by Dicosimo at Limerick over Christmas and does not appeal as being as well weighted as our selection.

Very similar to what I posted on the main forum about court frontier...nice to see some one else having the same view.

Although keen leader said Fitzpatrick hasnt been replaced as I had said, he cant ride in that race as he has turned Pro.

Most people are of the opinion that it got a terrible ride last time, Bigwilliestyle has said it had a very hard race..

How in heavens name will Fitzpatrick get a ride as a professional.

I'm a long time defender of jockeys but the ride Court Frontier got in Leopardstown was worse than the ride he gave it in Clonmel.
In Clonmel he was instructed to hold the horse up and he overdid it.
In Leopardstown he did everything wrong,he was in the worst possible position at all times in that race.
He found himself wide got pitched wider at nearly every fence,turning in he has no chance and is on the extreme outside,he moves back inside losing more ground and finishes to some affect to snatch third.

He has to win today with the change of jockey.
I certainly didnt think he had a hard race at Leopardstown,the opposite in fact.

I have no idea who will give him rides, he is very poor and lacks strength.

I thought they were just fed up with the rides that he had given Court Frontier and decided to put someone else up, but Keen Leader has stated that because this is an amateur race he cannot ride as he has turned pro.
I see he rides in the pro/am race on sunday claiming 7LB?

TTK would agree with most of your thoughts except for Flememstorm. Fine big horse who is coming to himself and this won't take much winning. Only downside is handicap debut.
Thought Tyners Mare had a chance in the second last. Not given much of a spin last time and step up in trip to suit.

Tyner have him the leg up last weekend and he won for workrider against Tudor City.

His riding of Court Frontier was dreadful though. Replaced in this context means someone else his riding. Whether he can or cannot ride is not mentioned? Anyone backing will surely prefer Quinlan no matter how it has come about.

I think Dell Arca will go very well now switched back to hurdles in the Lanzarote.  Stable always loved this horse but has never quite delivered.  Hopefully the pipe horses are turning the corner and he can go very well at a tasty 14/1

That court Frontier is useless.  Very little scope to jump fences and got a cruel hard race at Chritmas.  I sometimes wonder what race some of ye lads are watching!!

Mightn't have been good enough but a poor ride i thought, raced him from the off,winner was the one that just sat and picked up the pieces by the others cutting each others throats.

Winner was the classiest horse in the race by a mile.  Look at her french form.  Was running against grade 1 and 2 animals.  Only a matter of staying.  Look at her Navan run, was miles better than races Court Frontier was running in.

Court Frontier is very ordinary.

If Harold Kirk picked that horse up and Mullins managed to get him into that race off that weight he would be proclaimed a genius I guess.

No you wouldn't. You would be calling the horse a total disappointment!!! She is very disappointing as she would have been bought for big money and she's scrapping around in a dud handicap. Wouldn't be calling him a genius. Wikis would be winning a graded hurdle with her! That's the difference.

You can look at Shannaks (1.50 Fairyhouse) last run in a few ways,ie was it a one off but whatever you would have to say it was oh so eyecatching and prefer myself to look at it as improving, was hoping a bit of a rick with the early prices but 3/1 is fair enough in a right poor field.

Job is Right looked like a plodder today,don't think it was anything else.

The ride of the day for me was not a winning one ,crazy as it seems my nap for ride of the day cost me a packet ,it was Nina on UDB , horse jumped for fun and nearly held on , she sent him on at the right time and he looked all over the winner between the last two only to find the weight telling in the final strides...

Derek o Connor just proved what a Wiley oul jockey he is, showed why he's the best amatuer around with a perfectly timed challenge.

I think if you look at their records, you'll find Nina is miles ahead winner wise on track ...

Easily the mosr reliable jockey and easily the best amateur. I know there's been times when she's to too far back and whatever but I can't ever remember her on a non-jigger. Don't think there are too many if any other jockeys you can say that about

Just had a quick look back through her other years, well in the minus for bumpers but in the plus for hurldes/chases quite a few years.
One thing that surprised me is how young she is, 32, I thought she'd been around longer.

Its hard to gauge on TV but Court Frontier looks a small horse so think Bigwillystyle point about not enough scope seems valid.

No offence was mean’t Tony. It’s just an observation that you typically look towards the front of the market, often on horses with limited scope to shorten further. Diamond King, however, looked an exception to this (and indeed Court Frontier also went off much lower).

Good call on the chase winner BWS. It’s well known that Flemensfirths have quirks and this fella really wears his on his sleeve. Think the waywardness will catch him out eventually in a better grade but he should win more races.

Comparing Derek and Nina is a waste of time. Two totally different riders and approaches to the riding game.

thinking of going to Punchestown next weekend,never been before.

Any advice on where to stay near the course would be welcome,and public transport from the airport,bus,train?

Would be much appreciated if anyone can help.
