I think this has a live chance tomorrow dropping down in trip , hes not very big and will sometimes struggle over standard fences ,having said that I was at the ptp that he won and overheard connections say they thought a lot of him.He has not yet lived up to those high expectations. I never really felt he was a 3miler so am happy to see the drop in trip. Never like backing one after a fall but he actually jumped the last quite well at Thurles ,just a little to steeply and paid the ultimete price. Worth another chance tomorrow as his main danger is also dropping in distance , he on the other hand looks as if he would be better over longer....

I like the look of Venetian tomorrow should go well best of luck.
I'm going for TB Broke Her in the Opportunity Handicap hurdle. Consistent mare, trip a bit short last time out, expect her to be thereabouts tomorrow. 8/1 E/W is my bet. |

Even allowing for the heavy ground making it a test, I find it difficult to not see Venitian De Mai getting outpaced coming down the hill.
Westerners Son is a good little horse at his level and has shown plenty of solid handicap form at the trip over hurdles. He made a nice debut albeit he wasn't foot perfect. If he is able to get an advantage in front early I don't see Dreaper's or Elliot's getting past him. A Grey Matter was of similar standard to Westerers Son over hurdles and made an equally pleasing fencing debut. However, given connections, it was probably too good a run and it's quite possible he won't match that effort today. I wouldn't be a fan of the trainer but Mount Masada should defy the rise in weights. He has plenty of ability and is comfortably better than an 80-95 horse. As I said, the caveat is the trainer but this horse has a bit of a future if he stays right. |

Prince Roscoe is the horse you are thinking of.
I would certainly agree that he has done very well with limited resources over the years. Would suggest he has lost his edge in terms of placing horses more recently though. Ruined the chase handicap marks of Vic Approach and Stonehall Jack by running too well in beginners chases. If you are not going to win one of those then you shouldn't be finishing close. Getting the place prizemoney isn't worth it. From what I gather he is also very hard on horses at home yet pulls them out at a whim at the course for often spurious ground concerns. I don't know many trainers that would send a horse the whole way to Downpatrick for a spin only to pull it out because it's a bit soft (but perfectly safe). I wouldn't like to knock a small operator too much, especially when he has done well in the past, but he wouldn't be a personal favourite. |

Your correct. Prince Roscoe is the horse. Remember him being thrown in on rating at Limerick one christmas. Had most of what i owned at the time on it and he was a brutal jumper. Nearly went through the last but still bolted up. Awful feeling!!
I backed Vic Approach off low 80's in Downpatrick with DJ Mullins riding and he couldnt bloody win but won a beginners next time. Backed Mount Masada at 30's and 20's in cork but didnt back it in Fairyhouse. You are probably right with what you are saying. Think that Ryback Jack will win in Limerick at Chrismtmas however. |

I may be wrong bigwillystyle and i have been thousands of times, but if Ryback Jack wins anywhere at Xmas, its time to get out me mickey and take a bite out of it.
I backed it in Listowel and its not worth feeding. |

Mincer horse was wrong there. Think that was a maiden hurdle aswell and it jumped terrible. Thought it put in a much improved round of jumping in its first handicap last time and think it will take all the beating in bad ground. It won a bumper last Chrsitmas on similar ground.
Mincer you are right about it not being worth a sausage but you dont need to, to win a 0-102. |

He won't in Limerick or indeed anywhere else because he is dead I'm afraid. In fairness that horse found himself unintentionally well treated for a bumper winner because he ran deplorable when fancied in Listowel. That was just an off day and he'd have won a bad race off his mark.
Yeah Prince Roscoe split Sher Beau and a good grey horse of Willie's in Thurles over hurdles. Was already rated about 90 over fences at that stage. Was actually on the 2nd that day, a horse called Just who was also very well handicapped and won his next two. Think I had a fifty on him which was massive at the time! I think Vic Approach has a big engine in him. If the dam threw Alpha Beat off Environment Friend then she should throw a fair tool off Old Vic. Kind of horse that would improve stones if he went to Willie's. |

Thought Vic Approach got a bad ride in Thurles but he is probably not the most resolute of performers. Still very well treated. He would win plenty for Willie. If you could lift about 5-10 horses out of Rothwells you would be in business. I see he has a fair horse called Merrion Row who looks as wrong as wrong could be last time it ran but is a 120+ horse if Willie had him. How that fella stays in business i will never know. |

Sorry to hear the horse is dead, but i suppose thats the game at times.
To say Davie Fitz has had a quiet time is an understatement, and i may well be wronging him but he certainly wouldnt inspire confidence. Another thing lads, from my experience brushing bad runs under the carpet due to not being right isnt always that wise a move. I put down Ryback Jacks poor run in Listowel to being pure and simple, no good. |

Rothwell is a different scenario altogether. His main owner is Oliver Barden who owns O' Donoghues on Merrion Row. There's a PP just down the street that gets thronged with punters frittering away their money whenever Rothwell gives them the nod. It's amazing how braindead people get when they are told something by connections. The owner had one winner with Rothwell last year. Luckily enough it was Paddy O Dee on a big Leopardstown card so I am sure Rothwell was able to dine out for a long time on that victory. The very aptly named Shrewdoperator is another horse in that stable that has plenty of ability.
I was told before that his business plan is cheap fees and plenty of runs. He has a panel of owners who are more focussed on having a runner than having a good horse. In fairness Ryback did come back in a bad way from Listowel as far as I know. It was a desperate run for a horse that was able to win a bumper on heavy ground. It was probably too far a trip too soon after his Ballinrobe comeback and jumping mistakes hurt him. It's all academic now anyway unfortunately. I would agree on the more general point of forgiving poor runs too easily. Moderate horses often disappoint for no good reason. For that reason alone it's usually best not to get too financially involved in them. |
