WORK on the next phase of Leopardstown's €20 million redevelopment is set to start early in the New Year after the track received an additional €4.7 million grant from Horse Racing Ireland's Capital Development Fund towards the overall cost of the renovation.
The first phase in the modernisation of facilities, which has taken place this year, includes a new Champions Bar, a restaurant and an owners' and trainers' lounge, and work will be completed in time for the four-day Christmas meeting that begins on December 26.
The redevelopment will include new betting and entertainment areas for racegoers, a new saddling area beside the parade ring and a new weighing room building, which will include modernised facilities for jockeys, stewards, officials, medical staff and media.
