Australia: Officials have moved to counteract a track bias at Flemington on the eve of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

Following criticism of the way the rain-hit course rode on Saturday when horses against the rail held an advantage, Racing Victoria’s chief steward Terry Bailey inspected the surface with Victoria Racing Club track manager Mick Goodie on Monday.

They found an "inferior" section of the course, which is likely to result in jockeys fighting for a position on the rail again.

"Monday’s inspection identified a four metre section near the centre of the home straight which is rated inferior to the remainder of the straight," RV said in a statement.

"This is the section where approximately 40 horses galloped last Tuesday in preparation for the Cup Carnival."

Among a number of measures to attempt to reduce the bias, the rail has been moved out two metres from the true position to eliminate the area that was quickest in the straight on Saturday and no irrigation has been applied to the track, which has received 0.8 mm of rain up to 6pm (local time) on Monday.

With a clear weather forecast overnight and into Tuesday, Goodie expects the entire track will continue to improve in the countdown to the Melbourne Cup.

Race not on ATR

The Melbourne Cup will not be shown on At The Races, as in previous years, but on Eurosport, which will broadcast a 60 minute show beginning at 3.15am on Tuesday morning.

im really surprised at how big this one is..because one bad run? he may not be good enough ..but jesus its worth a little e/w surely at the prices..Charlton said on twitter thehorse is fine and worked well yesterday..he got beat a neck by big orange and that's half the price?
Report frank60 November 2, 2015 1:51 PM GMT
I dont back 100/1 as a rule Tony but like you say  its worth a little e/w  at the prices, win or lose.

Strange rule Frank!!

Would you back the fav if he was 100-1?

Havent really looked at it, but am tempted to back Max Dynamite. Tony makes a valid argument for QFM. I have always believed in forgiving a horse one run.

If QFM wins i will be very happy to change the rule Callit,Happy

Was a valid excuse for QFM run lto he ripped a shoe off - the aussies arent as forgiving as we are as the record of horses that do that in australia is very poor nto - hope this helps !

I've backed hartnell @ 33/1 for an interest. I always liked him when he was with Mark Johnston especially when he won the queen's vase last year. He has enough speed to travel around here as shown by his 2nd over a mile last time and hopefully can overcome the draw which isn't great.

Laugh Some rule that Frank = dunce.
Report Eddie Batt November 2, 2015 8:39 PM GMT
Had a few quid on Hartnell at 40 and Big Orange at 75-saver on Max Dynamite.Max Dynamite is currently 11.5 on betfair-I could see him starting at 7/1 or lower-a massive Irish gamble.

Feck it. Max slightly unlucky. Winner quickened well, but got over two lenghts on Frankie while he was extricating himself.

Month ban for Dettori, big gap opened up just after he switched him out, best horse in the race and a pity for WM's.
Your horse ran very well Tony, still pulling just before turning in and not getting the best of runs, could have finished a place or two better.
