Homes and Connelly  should issue a public statement that they are resigning with immediate effect, they have no other course of action.I have an idea the Mayo County Board and it's Chairman(brother of Connelly) will try to resist.I agree with the players and if they get the right man, their chances of winning an All Ireland will improve. The best of luck to them.

Homes and Connelly are now behaving like a jilted girlfriend, never good. They should be thinking about the good of Mayo football and not themselves.

...Not the first time for Mayo players -  distraction tactic to deflect from their own inadequacies

I dont accept that flower. The present group of Mayo footballers have been at the coalface for the last five years. There is no way that this was done on a whim.Homes and Connelly have to go,its as simple as that. They are only prolonging the inevitable resulting in a bitter and messy process splitting the county.

Holmes and Connelly resigned at the first available opportunity in fairness to them. They were put in this position by the county board this time last year through no fault of their own.

Only 2 Mayo men have won senior All Irelandsorts in the last 50 years, not surprisingly they had to go to Galway to win them. One John O'Mahoney has had 2 go's at the Mayo job, he should be remembered for forcing the retirement of Ciaran McDonald 6 years early.
The other, Stephen Rochford,  will get his turn now.

OK, 3 others Kevin McStay with a Rosscommon club,  Thomas Jordan with McDonald's Crossmolina and who ever managed Ballina.

Jose Mourinho couldnt get anymore out of Mayo, they are so used to losing that they are afraid of winning. Cromwell was right when he made that famous statement all those years ago.

Fair play, the two boys have done the honourable and decent thing, good luck to them.

so who do Mayo get to replace them?

If the Mayo County Board have any money they should head hunt Jim Mcguinness,he's got the smarts and is one of the few available that can walk into the Mayo dressing room and say "shut the f**k up and listen".Wink

The only team that can compete with Mayos record in All Ireland finals, the Galway hurlers, are now copying them off the field as well. They want Daly, should have got him last year ,  and when it seemed he was about to sign for Limerick,  have rightly imo told Cuningham it's time to go. The big difference here is I don't think Anthony will go as quick as the Mayo boys, and they also have to convince the other Anthony that they're a better bet than Limerick.
The similarities between Mayo footballers and Galway hurlers are unreal, either 2 new managers could sort them both out or more than likely this time next year we'll be looking for 2 new scapegoats.
A little ew double should give us a run for our money however.
