GOOD THREAD ON HERE FYI

Irish Professional Gambler
TheKid  16 Dec 07 21:43

Was an article in todays Sunday Independent about an Irish Professional Gambler.
Gambling on beating the odds
Johnny Ward meets professional gambler Declan Meagher whose strict -- and profitable -- betting regime is built on self-control and hard work

I still cringe at Johnny's rte apperances

Johnny knows more about racing than most. Certainly puts more into his work than  most, and doesn't just nominate favs out of laziness.

I will read them when he does them, not to sway any opinion I might have, but just for interest sake. He will often nominate what he perceives the likely winner, but something else up on value grounds.

And as you say Easy, a thoroughly sound bloke, not a bad bone in his body.

That was a good thread alright CMIYC. An example of what a shower of jealous c**ts most Irish people are.

I have met johnny on more than one occasion, and the guy works very very hard. He is also a decent bloke, unlike some of the brave keyboard warriors on here.

Likewise , everytime I meet him he always has time for a word , a nice young man .

I don't know the first thing about the chap and I definitely couldn't say anything negative about the chap, but watching the channels nowadays and all you get is puke inducing love ins at every available opportunity . RTE was particularly sickening today, even more so than normal. Foley Hayes lordan and Spencer were on at different stages, and it would be impossible to say who was the most nauseating . Flick over to ATR and you have " good performance " Ryan , an even bigger lick arrse.
According to these prix , every trainer is a lovely fella and every jockey is the most popular guy in the weigh room . There is never ever any criticism by even the presenters, nobody is ever going to rock the love in boat.

What do you expect Mincer, they all know each other, rely on each other.

I'm not saying its satisfactory but it is only human nature.

The only one who went after jockeys was John McCririck and he fluctuated between over the top criticism and over the top praise.

Kevin Ryan is a jockeys agent so he is compromised.

What I expect Dan is that they have somebody on who doesn't give 2 fukks if he upsets people, somebody who is completely impartial but calls a spade a spade.
I don't want to be listening to Hayes saying Joseph O Brien is riding out of his skin at the moment , that was the most sickening comment of the day in which there were so many other septic quotes.
What I'd like is someone to say that Spencer threw away the race on Maarek, that Bolger should have put in a pacemaker for Herald The Dawn, that Fran Berry was poor on Bocca Bocciata, Alice Springs got an educational , that kind of stuff.

Have you EVER seen a more DISAPPOINTED winning G1 jockey in your life , I'd say the guy was dreading getting back to the winners enclosure...Poor lad..

I'm not allowed on TV
I'd start off talking about racing in a critical fashion but would end up criticising Angela Merkel.

Agree with you about Spencer.
There was some inspired money for Sole Power in that race, glad I'm not a layer as I'd of snaffled the lot.

That money was only in the halfpenny place compared to what went on Order Of St George, the horse didnt half sweat up but his punters never broke sweat.

Taking on the biggest draw in the sport like that took a lot of integrity.

Yeah, I came across  Johnny,a terrible poker player that couldn't handle his liquor. He fell apart when some geezer at the table needled him on his tipping, broke every rule in the book and looked a pathetic figure on his departure.Laugh
