Paid a visit tonight for the first time in 10yrs , nothing has changed ,on one of their biggest nights they couldn't even get things to run smoothly .I arrived just after the first race to find they had run out of race cards . Only 2 bookies and very little Tote windows , the gravel leading up to the parade ring was the same stuff that has been there since the first time the track opened I'd say . Finally familes of travellers drinking OUTSIDE in the open ..Doubt I'll be back anytime soon.
Packed in going there a long time ago. Management back then only interested in looking after the higher profile trainers. The smaller owner/trainer used and abused for decades. Still sad to see it gone this low. Maybe you just caught it on a bad night. Good puppy stake that Texacloth.

Don't think its going to any great shakes this year , nothing really stood out last night that would make you think thats going to be some dog . It probably will improve when the better dogs turn out in the later rounds .

28.53, 28.47, 28.36, 28.66 and 28.58. Some very good young dogs on show and the same man sponsoring the stake for the last 40 years. Very hard to invest in something you are leasing and even harder when you are broke. Plenty of good dogs have been schooled around Newbridge and it's serves the area well.

Yes Gant it does serve the Local area well , and I wish it well , I got my first into to what it was like to have greyhounds when I first went to live in Kildare many moons ago . Last night left a lot to be disired considering the small enough crowd , as previously stated , no race cards available after first race , how was the punter to be informed may i ask ? . If the ordinary tools of his trade can't be provided , plenty arrived after me , how were they expected to know what dog was what .I was lucky enough to get a card off a owner so was at least able to confirm what the dog had done timewise . I have schooled many a dog around Newbridge and find little fault with the track both for schooling and racing . At the end of the day its about having turnover and the way to get that is to get bums on seats . Unless you were in the resturant last night the facilites were poor , in fact I'd say they have gone backwards since it reopened . Greyhound men and women have come out of the dark ages ,yes its still ok to wear your wellies when schooling in the muck , but most like to dress up for a night out and maybe if they had more seating outside for the summer months it just might add to the nights experience .

i was a regular in limerick and galway years ago. always had dogs and was generally intrested etc.but the tracks were catering for the bigger trainers re traps etc and it put a lot of smaller men like myself off.coupled with a collapsing selling to uk market and bigger overrounds on the boards there was only gonna be one result..i havent been to the new limerick track yet..and unless its a local charity night with a bus or something i cant see it happening..

The recession forced a lot of lads out of the game, drugs are the big enemy of the track dogs nowadays. Testing coming into coursing this year will give the small man a good chance.

Smashing final Friday night, 6 above average pups who will be right up there when the Puppy Derby kicks off. 28.08, 28.15, 28.38, 28.50, 28.32 serious times.

don't be cheating Gant using that -20 more chance of me being a billionaire playboy that Newbridge running 20 slow
agreed though, some right good pups, the top looks exceptional and I am a huge fan of the bitch in 4

PF.....I agree with you about the -20. It will be back to -20 for sure next week. Big stakes and flashy clocks. HQ is in some order at the moment, only 1 week left to get the flashy run on a pups card.
Mincer...When the track is flying he will get the 525. A handy 525 like Shelbourne would suit better.

He may or may not win the Puppy Derby, it will be a lot tougher and stronger in depth than the Texacloth anyway. So far he has shown brilliant pace around Newbridge especially 2 to 3, they obviously think a lot of him anyway after refusing the offer they did after just buying him.
Gant the track at SPK was absolutely mental last night sure, Niall Dunne's dog doing 28:06 shows exactly how fast it was running

aye was there myself, we must have made up 25% of the crowd so
yeah Derek will be able to do as he pleases (as he knows best) with the track once Bozo goes on holidays after the Derby ends

Sure the attendance was shocking last Saturday as well for a Derby Quarter Final no matter what way they wish to dress it up with the Dublin v Mayo game on beforehand, can only imagine how dead the place will go after next Saturday again until the Night Of Stars and Christmas parties

Very true. On a positive note Breeding is starting to pick up a small bit. Next March or April race dogs will be very thin on the ground. The big English buyers are making hay with the good sterling rate.

Not surprisingly "the top" Barnfield Panda won the final, he stayed on just fine last night considering he didn't get away from them and had the 6 (who ran one of his best races yet) at him up until the home straight and then had to hold the run of the bitch in 4 (who ran a blinder too).

He would Dan, particularly if you dipped his muzzle in the urinal at the Curragh. The stench of stale pisss makes him go bonkers, a bit like his owner.
