Some very interesting cards today given it's a weekday.

The nap of the day for me comes in the Lonsdale Cup at York in the shape of Clever Cookie. As has been the case for a couple of years, the top level are all capable of beating each other. However, this horse could prove himself to be a step ahead of them yet.

His form across all codes is very strong (beat Glingerburn in his first bumper and Air Pilot in his maiden) and he is 3/5 at York. The two defeats were still good runs despite excuses for both. He was impressive in his first two runs this season before connections took a punt on the King George. He was unsurprisingly taken out of his comfort zone before staying on late. That run still entitled him to his OR of 114 making him second choice today on the adjusted ratings, two pounds behind Big Orange. I see Clever Cookie being able to run to 118-120 over two miles with give in the ground and make him a knocking each way bet at the very least.

The potential negatives are 1) Two furlongs shorter would be possibly suit best but not a major concern 2) PJ McDonald is more usually associated with low grade handicaps in Ripon. You can't have it all your own way though and the smallish field on a wide open course should result in the best horse winning. CC also travels well in his races which is always a help in avoiding trouble.

fine write up, ive followed the horse off a cliff..there is no doubt in my mind ground is the issue..without cut he is not the same horse..im on again today..as the ground is good to soft..and if the rain arrives he'll be backed accordingly..lto was a poor run imo..but you can forgive a horse 1 bad run, the jockey has won on him before so no problem..@4/1 hes a bet ...but undoubtedly hes a better nh horse.

Hard to say he a better NH horse on the form book though Tony. Rated 144, is 30lb below the best. He isn't that far off the best over his trip on the flat. 4-1 for a Group One last time(granted that the craziest price ever seen)

I am going to forgive Mizzou his run in the GC last time. Maybe the ground was a shade fast, I still thought he was going to swoop two down. I get the feeling something was ailing him, and as said by Tony, one poor run can always be forgiven.

Tony given the horse is 10/17 you'd do well to have followed him off a cliff. The last day wasn't a bad run, he just went off a mentally short in the market. I would suggest the horse has only ran bad once in its life (2014 Scottish Champion Hurdle). All other runs have been at least commendable.

He's not fully expose over hurdles but, as Callit says, he is far closer to an elite stayer than an elite hurdler on what we have seen. Not sure how you make that claim.

I think the horse is and will be a far better nh horse his wins in a grade 2 @kelso and the Scottish county hurdle @mussellburgh make him out as a nh horse for me..indeed his trainer has stated that he is a nh horse ..its only that he has proved very good on the flat plus won money being placed in decent races...
if peter niven decides to concentrate on jumps only ..this horse will mop up on soft heavy in the north ..and I have no doubt will be a better animal the further he goes over hurdles

If he had a flat rider on top of him he'd have been placed. Hanging out the back of him when the rest were getting to work. A middling enough run all the same. Willie does it again.

Fair play but I doubt you enjoyed the first four furlongs.

I'd say Mincer was place laying as well.

Palmetto Dunes has the experience is improving and Weld has some record on the Knavesmire.

One slight worry is the ground but still worth a punt
