After unsuccessfully trying to login to my titanbet, 10bet and 32red accounts I was told that due to a new legislation that was suddenly passed 2 days ago they can no longer take business from customers from Ireland.
Does anybody know what this legislation is?

The Orders provide that the requirement for remote bookmakers to pay (1%) betting duty on bets entered into with persons in the state and remote betting intermediaries to pay betting intermediary duty (15% of commission) in respect of commission charges levied on persons availing of betting intermediary facilities within the State will take effect from 1 August 2015.

A good few have pulled out including matchbook and racebets now as well.
Racebets claim they are waiting on their licence but I would have my doubts.
Matchbook is disappointing as it had the liquidity in some sports to compete with Betfair and could have been very useful.
Hopefully this tax does not serve as another handout to racing and the sports that most of the betting is generated from, such as football, could be diverted towards trying to assist the game at grass roots level here. I suspect not however and it will simply be used to swell the horse and greyhound fund.

What constitues a "remote" bookmaker ?
Does it mean any bookmaker who has no presence on the ground in the Republic ( presumably someone has figured out the Ireland / Northern Ireland situation ) has to pay the extra ?

Bookmaker loyalty is odds deep . You only go to your favourite when odds are the same everywhere . A bit like milk prices these days ( although I would pay dearer for my milk if I thought our local farmers were getting a better ( survival ) deal ). Market economies world wide these days are "devil take the hindmost " , bookies not much different . I wonder who will be the last men standing .
nearest bookie to me is tullys but their morn /football./gaa prices are usually shortest..so i gotta go elsewhere even tho it would be a lot handier..
