World Cup Qualifying Group.....Republic of Ireland have a decent chance at making the next World Cup in Russia.
We've been pitted against Wales who are the top seeds, Austria who have decent young team coming up, Serbia as third seeds, then Moldova and the lowest seeds Georgia.
Northern Ireland got Germany, Czech Rep, Norway, Azerbaijan and San Marino, while England got a handy enough group too as they face Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta.

as qualifying groups go, this is as good as it gets for a average ordinary outfit like the current r.o.i squad.
back in the day when jack Charlton first qualified for euro88, it was from a similar type of group with no standout team, and this group contains no banker matches. I would certainly rather play away in Georgia and Moldova at the tail of this group than at the start as they will take points from others. I strongly feel that Serbia are the strongest squad in this group, the majority of their team are champions league players across Europe...their current position at the foot of their euro qualifier group is down to that hate filled drone invader encounter with Albania. yes they can be tempermental and don't have a standout out "go to" striker, yet with the success of their underage teams of late, I have no doubt that they are the most likely to top the group. wales and Austria I don't rate, they will trouble Ireland, Austria has been a bogey team for us. I suspect both teams will fare poorly at the euro 2016 finals and could be caught on the rebound in this qualifying group. on my tissue I make Serbia 11/8, Austria 9/4, rep and wales 3/1-7/2. ppowers think otherwise and have chalked up Serbia at 7/2. I know you would have a long time to wait to get paid, but that 7/2 looks a rick, a massive one, as the price is more than twice what I think it should be. |

"Pitted against Wales", It isn't that outrageous a statement as unbelievably the Welsh are ranked as the 10th best team in the world,ahead of the French,Russia,Italy and yep Spanish,surely even the most ardent Welsh followers know that the rankings are complete rubbish and i'm not taking away from their good run.
"Easyish" group alright but still can't see Ireland qualifying (3/1), PP have cut the Serbs to 5/2 bringing them more or less in line. |
